Football Searches for New Head Coach
USU director
of athletics Randy Spetman announced that this will
be Mick Dennehy’s last season as head coach of the USU
Football team. Dennehy will continue to coach the team
in its remaining two games. He has one year remaining
on his contract, which the university will honor.
This is Dennehy’s fifth
season with the Aggies after coming here from coaching
at the University of Montana. During his tenure at USU,
he has a record of 18-36, with a 2-7 mark so far this
year. Dennehy’s best season was in 2000, his first at
USU, when the Aggies went 5-6 and finished in second
place behind Boise State in the Big West Conference.
After receiving word
of the decision, Head Coach Mick Dennehy released the
following statement:
"(Utah State director
of athletics) Randy Spetman has an incredibly tough
job with his biggest priority being the building of
facilities. I completely understand his decision and
only wish that I could have done more to help him with
this major undertaking.
Sheila and I have thoroughly
enjoyed our relationship with Utah State University
and the people of Cache Valley. Coming to work every
day was a pleasure because of the quality of the people
we had an opportunity to work with. I would especially
like to thank the coaches and the players for all of
their effort.
For the many records
we set on the field and the tremendous amount of improvement
the kids have made academically and off the field, we
struggled in the bottom line and wins and losses are
important. In the end, we didn't win enough.
I would like to wish
Utah State University the best in the future."
A search committee has
been formed to find a new coach. There is no word yet
on Dennehy’s replacement.
College
of Business Establishes $1.25 Million Chair
The USU
College of Business recently established its first endowed
chair as part of the college’s efforts to enhance its
national reputation. The creation of the George
S. Eccles chair was made possible by the donation of
$1.25 million from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles
Foundation. This gift is the largest of its kind
in the history of the College of Business.
According to Dean Caryn
Beck-Dudley, the endowed chair position will help improve
programs in the college at every level. The chair
will generate annual support for an outstanding faculty
member and help attract people of national prominence.
These benefits will be responsible in no small
part to the name attached to the new position.
George S. Eccles was
renowned throughout the nation in the areas of business
and banking. With his help, prominent speakers
from around the world were invited to visit Utah State
University as part of the Partners in Business program.
Today, the College of Business is housed in the
George S. Eccles Business Building.
The USU College of Business
stands as the oldest business school in the West and
one of the oldest in the nation.

Pride in Iraq
LTC Robert
Dunton sent this email to the Alumni Association after
the “Aggie Pride in Iraq” story was published in last
month’s Aggie Insights. With his permission,
we reprint the email for all alumni.
"I have received
many emails on the story of the 115th EN GP also, thank
you so much for helping us get the story out.
I am currently home on leave for 15 days and what most
people want to know is what is really happening in Iraq.
I tell everyone that what they see on TV is what
is happening but it is not the only thing that is happening.
It is so strange to be in the land of plenty,
but also very nice. We are continuing to work
on our highway project and numerous Iraqi police stations
as well as more schools.

Cache County Aggie Chapter
The
Cache County Aggie Chapter will be hosting a Pre-Game
Event at Hamilton's Steak and Seafood Restaurant. The
event will be held prior to the USU-University of Utah
Basketball Game on December 4. A Soup and Salad bar
will be available for $10 per person from 1 p.m. until
3 p.m. prior to the 4 p.m. start of the game.

Eastern Idaho Aggie Chapter/Liberty
Mutual
The Eastern Idaho
Alumni Chapter and Liberty Mutual invite all Aggies to
join them on the Aggie Basketball Express. The destination
is the USU vs. BYU basketball game on Wednesday, December
1, in the Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.
The cost is $29.00 per person and includes a pre-game
dinner, a chartered bus ride to the game, a game ticket,
and Aggie ice cream. There will also be a raffle
and door prizes on the bus.
The bus leaves from the
Fred Meyer parking lot (1555 Northgate Mile) in Idaho
Falls at 4:00 p.m. Seating is limited! For
