Sacred Sand Art: Mandalas in the Buddhist Tradition
The Religious Studies Program invites you to witness the construction & dissolution of a beautiful Sand Mandala by Venerable Lama Sonam and Khenpo Choephel, Buddhist monks from Tibet. Dr. Hun Lye, professor of East Asian Religions at Davidson College, will also be present to explain the construction as it develops and to lecture about the Mandala. The event is sponsored by the Religious Studies Program and co-sponsored by Housing and Resident Life, University Dining, USU’s Religious Studies Club, Appreciating the Arts Freshman Interest Group, Global Village, & other students groups. Friday, Oct. 26: •10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Come and view the completed Mandala. •3 p.m.: Dissolution of the Mandala at Second Dam. (The dissolution is a crucial part of the ceremony; all are invited to witness the ritual.)
