USU Botanical Center Celebrates the Arts with Free Community Event

The Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville will host Art in the Arboretum on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. It will include an outdoor art gallery featuring local artists, quilt displays, live performances by local performers and chalk artists, children’s story time, and food demonstrations.

Along with enjoying the displays and performances, visitors will have the chance to connect with their inner artist. There will be chalk stations for the public to show their creativity, a craft area for children, and painting classes available for an extra cost.

According to Alex Zesiger, the center's outreach manager, the event was created to celebrate the arts in the preserved green space.

“As green spaces are rapidly disappearing, the USU Botanical Center is a haven, and we encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to come explore here,” she said. “From the ponds to our gardens, there is something for everyone. This event will help bring people to this space, and we hope it will spark the artist inside of them.”

The USU Botanical Center offers educational opportunities for children and adults. It features an urban fishery, walking and biking trails, wetland areas that support birds and other wildlife, multiple volunteer-tended gardens, an arboretum, and a full schedule of classes, workshops, educational field trips, and other events.

While the event is free, all donations directly support the gardens. Food trucks will be available on-site, and picnicking is encouraged. Click here for further information.
