A DAY OF CONVERSATIONS — A HUMAN LIBRARY OF SPIRITUAL PATHWAYS
LOGAN — University Libraries at Utah State University presents a one-day Human Library Feb. 27. Human “books” are available for check out from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Merrill-Cazier Library, Room 101.
Human Library events are held around the world, and this is the third time University Libraries has hosted an activity at USU on the Logan campus. The Feb. 27 Human Library event focuses on spiritual pathways, providing readers an opportunity to “read” books with a variety of religious and spiritual perspectives and experiences.
Event organizers invite everyone to stop by the Human Library any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and browse through the list of titles and select an available title to have a one-on-one conversation with the book. Full descriptions of books can be seen online at the Merrill-Cazier Library’s Human Library website (http://libguides.usu.edu/content.php?pid=291470). Each book is an expert not on a topic, but on his or her experience with a topic. Checking out a Human Book is a memorable experience because every conversation is unique for each reader and book.
A sampling of available books includes a Pagan, a person whose spirituality has developed through the experience of having cancer, books who have gone through the process of a faith change, a book who attends the local Buddhist sangha, a Unitarian Universalist and a book whose spiritual practice is expressed through yoga and meditation. Available books represent a number of religious and spiritual experiences and expressions.
Organizers encourage everyone to stop by the free event and check out a book, even if it is for five minutes to ask just one question — it’s a chance to broaden your horizons, one Human Book at a time.
