With FAFSA Delays, USU Extending Priority Application Deadline for Academic Scholarships

In response to the processing delays by the Department of Education’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Utah State University has extended its academic scholarship application priority deadline for first-time students. The new priority deadline will be June 1, 2024.

"Extending scholarship application deadlines not only offers more students flexibility to pursue higher education at lower costs, but also offers Utahns more options to begin their next chapter of life — online or at any of USU's campuses throughout the state,” said USU President Elizabeth R. Cantwell. “This is about stepping up for Utahns and stepping up for Utah's future.”

This initiative aims to provide access and opportunity to students as they make enrollment decisions while navigating the challenges of FAFSA delays. Utah State is committed to providing access to quality education for all who meet admission standards and deadlines.

“We know students and families are frustrated with the changes related to Federal Student Aid,” said Craig Whyte, assistant vice president & executive director for Student Financial Support. “By extending the priority academic deadline, we are hopeful that more students will be able to access financial resources offered by Utah State University. We also encourage all eligible first-time and continuing students to submit the FAFSA if they have not already done so.”

All first-time undergraduate students (meaning first-year or transfer students) who apply for admission to USU by the priority deadline will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship. This applies to all USU campuses and to students applying for both the Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters. Students must meet academic requirements to be considered for financial awards.

Students who have met previous scholarship deadlines and have already been awarded an academic scholarship are encouraged to submit the scholarship reconsideration form. Submitting the online form will allow students to submit updated high school GPA and/or test scores and these updates will be taken into consideration.
