Begins For New Alumni Director
With
the pending retirement of our long-time Alumni Director
and loyal Aggie, Carlos Smith (Class of ’57), Utah State
University has begun a search for a new Executive Director
for Alumni Relations to continue the important work of
connecting with our alumni throughout the world. The review
of applicants will begin on January 20, 2006. The position
is open until filled.
Utah
State University,
a nationally ranked land-grant research institution, is
seeking a dynamic and highly organized professional to
serve as its Executive Director for Alumni Relations.
This position serves as the senior executive in charge
of alumni relations at USU, providing vision and leadership
for programs and activities that engage and meet the needs
of alumni, former students, and friends of the university.
The Executive Director will be a member of the Advancement
executive staff, informing and advising the Vice President
on key issues related to all alumni activities and provide
key assistance in the University’s comprehensive campaign.
Demonstrated abilities to work openly in a team environment
are required. The director’s office is based in Logan,
Utah, but the position requires extensive time for out-of-town
travel, weekend and evening events. It is important that
the individual has the ability to adapt, effect change,
and manage innovation while embracing the traditions and
heritage of Utah State University.
A Bachelor’s degree is
required, Master’s preferred. Successful candidate must
be able to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere with
other advancement personnel, have excellent interpersonal,
communication and writing skills, and a proven record
of successful management of budget, human resources, and
personnel. In addition, the executive director should
have the ability to motivate staff and ensure quality
work from them; recruit, train and manage volunteers;
understand the land-grant mission of Utah State University
and the institutions role in local, state and global communities;
have experience with fund raising, sales and/or marketing.

USU
Unveils New Website
Looking to
improve the user friendliness of its website, Utah State
University recently unveiled a completely redesigned homepage.
The new page comes after nearly a year of work led by
USU Webmaster Ben Renard-Wiart. The main reasons for the
change were to improve the university’s image and make
navigating the site easier.

President
Albrecht Becomes Official
President
Stan Albrecht officially assumed the reigns of Utah State
University at a special ceremony during the 114th commencement
on December 17, 2005. Regents Chair Nolan Karras oversaw
the ceremony. The original conferral ceremony was cancelled
due to the van accident which claimed the lives of eight
USU students and one instructor.
Upon officially becoming
USU’s 15th president, Albrecht said he was “completely,
totally, thoroughly, lock-stock-and-barrel invested in
Utah State University ”. Before becoming president, he
served as provost and dean of the College of Humanities,
Arts, and Social Sciences.
Noelle
Cockett Named Extension and Ag VP
Noelle
Cockett was named by President Stan Albrecht as vice president
for Extension and Agriculture. This is a new position
that combines the administrative duties of university
Extension and the College of Agriculture. Cockett will
also serve as the dean of the College of Agriculture.
Before this new appointment,
Cockett served as the interim provost since February.
She has also previously served as the dean of the College
of Agriculture. This new appointment will officially begin
on January 15, 2006.
College
of Agriculture Raising Funds For New Horse Arena
Utah
State University’s
College of Agriculture is looking to build a new horse
arena and training facility. The State of Utah has already
given $1 million for the project and the college is seeking
another $2 million from private donors. The privately
donated money will go to purchase land, paddocks, fencing,
shelters, and watering systems. To learn more, contact

Wells
Fargo Donates $10,000
The Wells
Fargo Foundation recently donated $10,000 to Utah State
University to help support scholarships and a new program
for the College of Business. Half of the money will go
to establishing “Breakfast with Utah State University”.
This new program will bring professionals from USU to
Salt Lake to give presentations to the business community.
The rest of the money will help fund two scholarships
for students with business-related majors.
Alumni
Scholarship Deadline Approaching
The
deadline for applications for the alumni scholarship is
February 1, 2006. Alumni scholarships exist to assist
the children or grandchildren of Aggies in attending USU.
To qualify a student must be: (1) living in an area with
a chartered alumni chapter, (2) entering as a freshman
or transfer student, and (3) a child or grandchild of
a USU alum.
