Aggiette Auditions


Try-Out Clinic

**Clinic Participation is mandatory**

When: Thursday, April 4th 2013
Time: 4:00pm-6:00pm
Where: Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum (850 N 800 E)
What To Wear: Dance attire
What To Expect:
  • Begin learning the first of three audition routines that will be taught throughout the course of auditions.
  • No judging will take place during this time
  • Judging will begin Friday, April 5th, following a quick review of material taught during clinic.

Try-Outs

When: Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6, 2013
Time: April 5th: 8:00am-2:00pm
April 6th: 8:00am until team is chosen
Where: Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum (850 N 800 E)
What To Wear: Black dance pants or bikers, black dance top – come performance ready!
What To Expect:
  • Friday, April 5th, 2013: Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. Participants will continue to learn three (3) different styles of dances - a technical jazz dance, a hip-hop and a pom routine. Sideline cheers will also be taught. Participants may be asked to go across the floor with several combinations where judges can evaluate technique and ability.
  • A series of initial cuts will be made Friday to determine who will be invited back for the final audition on Saturday, April 6th at 8:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, April 6th: You will be judged on all the material that you learned and performed on Friday, April 5th. Be prepared for a possible interview.
  • 10 positions are available.
  • You DO NOT need to prepare any of your own material. We are looking for advanced level technique & ability, stage presence and someone who captures the Aggiette style.

Preparing For Try-outs

  • Master basic dance technique of balancing, centering, maintaining lines and controlling movements.
  • Enhance flexibility
  • Skills to practice are, but not limited to:
    • Turns - Double/Triple pirouettes, fouettes – in second and sustained
    • Leaps - Grande jete', switch, tilt, back, & side leaps, Russian/Calypso
    • Kicks - Work on height and control

Please bring a filled-out registration form and a non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 with you (if you are under 18 years of age, make sure the application has your parent's signature on it). You can print the registration form on-line under Audition Application, pick one up in the Taggart Student Center (room 326), or call (435) 797-2912 and we can send you one. Auditions are closed to everyone except the participants, judges and those helping with the auditions.
