ANNUAL CAINE CHAMBER ENSEMBLES PERFORMANCE
LOGAN, UT – Utah State University’s Music Department presents the annual Caine Chamber Ensembles performance Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall on USU’s Logan campus.
“In all chamber music there is a heightened degree of performing accountability, as the ensembles are smaller and every voice matters,” said Max Matzen, assistant professor in the Caine College of the Arts. “This concert should be a clear indicator of the high level of musicianship amongst music students.”
The Caine Chamber Ensembles include the Caine Percussion Quartet, USU Horn Quartet, Caine Woodwind Quintet, Caine Saxophone Quartet and Caine Brass Quintet. Each group is auditioned and students in the groups are awarded scholarships provided by the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation-Russell family.
Each ensemble will perform individually, featuring a variety of works.
The Caine Brass Quintet will perform “Frost Fire” by Eric Ewazen and “Canzona Bergamasca” by Samuel Scheidt. The USU Horn Quartet will perform “America” from the musical “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein. The Caine Percussion Ensemble will present the piece “Radioactive Octopus” by Steven Simpson. The Caine Saxophone Quartet will perform “The Goldrush Suite” by Jack W. Marshal and “Three Improvisations for Sax Quartet” by Phil Woods.
The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, see the Caine College of the Arts website (arts.usu.edu).
