Mykel Beorchia

Biography

Mykel directs the Office of University Advising and Exploratory Advising at Utah State University (USU). As director, she serves as a liaison between academic advising and campus partners, ensuring advisors have the resources they need to support students’ growth as learners and citizen scholars. She leads initiatives centered in student potential to increase persistence and degree completion. Prior to her current role, she served as Director of the Academic Service Center for the Quinney College of Natural Resources. Mykel used the Appreciative Advising framework to help students discover their strengths and connect them with academic programs to help them move toward their dreams, improving retention and completion rates in the college. Mykel serves as on the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Communities Division as chair of the Appreciative Advising community. She has served on the Utah Advising Association (UAA) and NACADA Region 10 steering committees. She received the Utah State University Advisor of the Year (2014) and NACADA Professional Advisor Certificate of Merit - Primary Role (2015). Mykel holds degrees in Family, Consumer, and Human Development (B.S.) and Psychology-School Counseling (M.S.) from USU.
