Dr. Keiko Kawamuro of the University of Iowa will speak on "Open Book Foliation and Its Applications" Any closed 3 manifold admits open book decompositions. In this talk, given a surface in a 3 manifold, we introduce a singular foliation on the surface associated to an open book decomposition. Studying such foliation we extract topological/geometric and contact geometric information of the ambient 3 manifold. This is joint work with Tetsuya Ito (UBC).
