GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test is for admission to graduate level business and management programs. Website: www.mba.com

  • Cost: $250.00
  • Where: USU Testing Services, University Inn 115
  • When: Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m., by appointment
  • Register: Online at www.mba.com or by phone at the GMAT Call Center, 1-800-717-GMAT
  • Scores: Examinee will receive an unofficial printout of the verbal and quantitative scores immediately. The official score report, including the analytical writing score, will be sent to the examinee and to the schools he or she indicated approximately 20 days after the exam.
  • Note: Student ID is not sufficient identification. GMAT requires state or federal photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport. Examinees testing outside of their country of citizenship must present their passport 

GRE (Graduate Record Exam)

When a graduate program asks for GRE scores, they usually mean the General GRE only. If the school or program also requires a specific Subject GRE score (i.e. Biology), they will usually make that requirement clear in their admissions instructions. Website: www.gre.org

GRE General Exam

  • Cost: $160.00
  • Where: USU Testing Services, University Inn 115
  • When: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, by appointment
  • Register: call (435) 797-1004 or register online at www.ets.org/gre
  • Scores: Examinee sees verbal and quantitative scores immediately; scores mailed approximately 15 days after test date
  • Note: Student ID card is not sufficient identification-requires driver's license, state ID, passport, etc. Be aware that there are occasional exceptions to these dates and times. Also, testing schedules often fill to capacity, so an advance appointment is required to ensure a seat. Walk-in testing is allowed, but will not guarantee a spot.

GRE Subject Exam

  • Cost: $140.00
  • Where: Subject Exams are usually administered in the east wing of Old Main. Check your admission ticket for exact reporting location and time. Registration deadline is approximately 5 weeks in advance of each test date
  • Register: at the GRE website (www.ets.org/gre)
  • Scores: Available approximately 4 to 6 weeks after test date
  • Note: Student ID card is not sufficient identification - requires driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.
  • When: Three Saturdays each year. Upcoming GRE Subject Exam dates:
    • October 15, 2011
    • November 12, 2011
    • April 21, 2012

A one-time GRE fee reduction waiver is available to qualifying candidates. The waiver reduces the GRE fee by 50 percent. You must be currently registered for and receiving federal financial aid through an undergraduate program to be eligible, and income contribution limits apply. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information or to request a waiver.

There are also several scholarship and achievement programs supported by the fee waiver reduction such as “GEM” for minority students in engineering and science—as well as availability for those who can confirm that they are currently unemployed and receiving unemployment compensation. LSAT (Law School Admission Test)

  • Cost: $139.00
  • Where: Registration information is available at USU Testing Services, University Inn 115; for space reasons, the test is administered in other buildings on campus. See your admission ticket for exact reporting location. Website: www.lsat.org
  • When: Three Saturdays and One Monday each year.
  • Register: on the LSAT website (www.lsat.org)
  • Scores: Available approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the test date
  • Note: Test fee does not include additional Law School Data Assembly Service fee ($124), a requirement in order to submit applications to most law schools. Student ID card is not sufficient identification-requires driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.

MAT (Miller Analogies Test)

A computer-based graduate school admissions test accepted by a limited number of schools and/or graduate programs. Less expensive and much shorter than the GRE, the MAT does not include separate verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections. Used primarily by programs which do not require advanced mathematics skill. Website: www.milleranalogies.com.

  • When: Mondays at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays at 8:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m., by appointment

  • Scores: unofficial scores available immediately. Official scores available approximately 2 to 4 weeks after the test date.

MCAT

Medical College Admission Test, the test for entrance to medical school. The MCAT is given as a computer based exam on approximately 21 dates yearly, with most dates falling between the months of April and September. Utah State University participates in approximately 13 of the 21 national dates. Website: www.aamc.org/students/mcat

  • Cost: $235.00

  • Scores: Released for examinee to view on MCAT website approximately 30-35 days after test date.
  • Register: at the MCAT website (www.aamc.org/students/mcat). Advance appointment required. 

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

A test of basic English language reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills used as an admission criterion (undergraduate and graduate) for those whose native language is other-than English. Website: www.toefl.org.

  • Cost: $175.00
  • Where: USU Testing Services, University Inn 115
  • Scores: available approximately 4 to 6 weeks after test date
  • When: Approximately 30 dates per year, predetermined by the test company. USU participates in approximately half of the test dates. See the TOEFL website for details.
  • Register: at the TOEFL website (www.ets.org/toefl)
  • Scores: mailed approximately 15 days after test date
  • Note: current passport required as identification unless examinee is a US citizen. Advance appointment required.
