Maureen Hearns

Biography

Dr. Hearns is a Associate Professor of the Music Therapy Program at Utah State University. A graduate of both the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, and Utah State University, Dr. Hearns completed her master’s at the University of Phoenix and her doctorate at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Hearns’ dissertation, Music Therapists’ Self-Care: Examining the Effectiveness of Educational Preparation for Clinical Practice, explored how the practice of self-care impacts a clinician’s professional and personal life.  Previous research studies have investigated the efficacy of music therapy interventions with women victims of domestic violence, and mother-child bonding behaviors in families altered by the effects of domestic violence.  She is currently co-authoring a chapter on ethical practices of music therapy clinical supervision.
