ETE Professional Development Pathway

Welcome to the Professional Development Pathways program, a transformative initiative designed to support and elevate the teaching excellence community across the Utah State University (USU) System. At the Center for Empowering Teaching Excellence (ETE), we are committed to fostering an environment of continuous growth and development, and provide resources and structure to document your teaching excellence journey.

Whether you are just new to academia or looking to deepen your teaching practices, the Pathway program is designed to meet you where you are and connect you to essential resources and events. As part of this inclusive community, you are invited to explore a range of opportunities that will enhance your pedagogical skills and enhance learning for your students. The ETE team is here to guide and support you at every step along your Pathway, ensuring a professional development experience that is both rewarding and impactful.

How it Works

The ETE Professional Development Pathway is designed to promote continued instructor development through workshops, seminars, conferences, and one-on-one consultations. The program is designed for instructions to earn digital badges or micro-credentials, in a three-tiered framework documenting the Instructor's teaching improvement activities and culminating in teaching certificates. Each certificate and each track on the Pathway have certain badges that are required and participants will be responsible for completing the badges towards earning their Certificate. Once badges are submitted, they will be reviewed by ETE. Once reviewed to make sure all the criteria for the badge are met, the badge will be awarded and applied to certificate requirements. While badges can be awarded at any time during the academic year, certificates are only awarded at the ETE Conference in August. All badges and the ETE10 Certificate Application must be submitted by July 31st to be considered for receiving your certificate that August.

Getting Started

Before beginning your journey, you will Plan Your Pathway (PYP) with the ETE Instructional Coordinator. They will guide you in determining your strength-based professional development goals and align them with the guidance of your committee. You will select a focus area or track which includes a combination of workshops, conferences, and consultations. As you engage in these events and implement new approaches into your teaching you will earn digital badges as documentation of your progress on your Pathway. Each track has different required elements and other elective options that will stack to culminating certificates.

As you continue down the path you will also have opportunities to contribute back to our teaching excellence community. As you submit badges in the ETE Canvas course they will be reviewed by the ETE team and feedback provided. Once reviewed to make sure all the criteria for the badge are met, the badge will be awarded and applied to your certificate requirements. While badges can be earned throughout the academic year, certificates are awarded annually at the ETE Conference in August. All badges and the Pathway certificate application must be submitted by July 31st.
