Alumni Band July 15: American Festival and Cache Valley Children's Chorus

The 2018 Alumni Band's season concerts are held in the Daines Concert Hall in the Chase Fine Arts Center on the USU Campus.

The July 15 Utah State University Alumni Band performance features the American Festival Chorus with Craig Jessop, music director, and the Cache Valley Children’s Chorus with Leslie Timmons and Karen Teuscher, directors, and Claudia Bigler, artistic director of the Cache Children’s Choir along with members of the choir.

“Students in grades 3-8 are invited to sing along with AFC as they celebrate our heritage,” Timmons said. “This is a wonderful outreach project by AFC to provide a quality performance opportunity for Cache Valley’s regional youth.

The Alumni Band will play Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, The Liberty Bell, This Land and more.

Nicholas Morrison, music director of the USU Alumni Band, said Jay Richards, founding director of Music Theatre West, will conduct My Blessed Canyon Home accompanied by Claudia Bigler on piano. The piece, composed by Richards himself, was commissioned by the Cache Children’s Choir. Richards loves working with and mentoring young talent. He recently won the American String Teachers Association composition competition writing for young orchestra.

“Bring the whole family,” Morrison said. “Children of all ages are welcome to attend.”

Other Alumni Band concerts will be held on July 22 and August 5. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public. This season’s concerts are held in the Daines Concert Hall in the Chase Fine Arts Center on the USU Campus.
