Incoming USU News Director: Aggie Innovations Reach Far Beyond Beehive State

By Steve Kent |

Logan Wilber has joined Utah State University's strategic communications team in the role of news director to help inform the public of research and other innovations.

Wilber will act as a liaison between USU and the public, working through news and social media to help professors, students and staff share their stories. Wilber's first day as news director was April 8.

"The work taking place at USU reaches far beyond the borders of the Beehive state," Wilber said. "Research and innovation in agriculture, water, space, engineering, education and more will lead the way in shaping the future for not only for us right here in Utah, but all Americans, and others around the world."

Wilber comes to USU from a background in broadcast journalism. Most recently, he worked as interim news director for WRGB in Schenectady, New York. Prior to that, he worked at various other stations, including as a producer at KSL in Salt Lake City. Wilber succeeds Emilie Wheeler, who served as USU's first news director from 2019-2023.

Wilber plans to maximize opportunities to reach the public, sharing USU's expertise and knowledge through news outlets and social media.

"The wider the net we cast to let the public know about the successes and opportunities found on USU's campuses," Wilber said, "the greater chances we'll have to find the next Harry Reid, Mary Louise Cleave, Norah Abdullah Al-Faiz, Bobby Wagner, or Merlin Olsen and convince them to call USU home."
