New Scholarships Available to First-Time Utah Students

By Ryan Jensen |

For 2024, USU has implemented four-year academic merit scholarships at all USU campuses and centers for first-time students who are Utah residents.

Students who have deferred from a previous semester and are returning for Summer 2024 or later will automatically be reconsidered for these new awards. Current students will not be eligible for them.

“We want students to be taken care of long term when they decide to attend Utah State,” said Katie North, executive director of new student enrollment. “Not only do we want students to attend USU, but we want them to graduate from USU. These new four-year awards will help them achieve that.”

Also available to first-time Utah residents at all USU campuses and centers is the Utah State Promise scholarship introduced in 2021.

This scholarship is designed to provide tuition and student body fee assistance to qualifying full-time Pell-eligible students working toward their first four-year undergraduate degrees.

For recipients of this scholarship, USU will pay any remaining tuition and student body fee costs not covered by Pell Grants and other scholarships or awards.

“USU works hard to serve the students of this state,” North said. “These scholarship opportunities reflect our commitment to making higher education more accessible. If a student wants to earn a degree, we don’t want affordability to be an issue.”

First-time students wanting to take advantage of these new four-year academic awards for fall 2024 should apply to Utah State by Dec. 1.
