Tony Brown and Cornell Green Named To Utah State All-Century Team

Jan. 19, 2005

LOGAN, Utah — Tony Brown and Cornell Green are the first two Aggies named to Utah State's all-century basketball team that is being announced at home games for the rest of the season. In all, 15 players will be named to the team, with one or two players being recognized at each home game.

Brown and Green will be honored at Thursday's game (Jan. 20) against Cal State Fullerton.
Brown was a four-year letterwinner from 1999-2002, who earned honorable mention All-America honors as a senior. He was a first-team all-Big West selection in 2002 after earning second team honors as a junior.

The 6-3 guard finished his career as the seventh leading scorer in Utah State history with 1,564 points and holds school records for three-pointers made in a career (283), career free throw percentage (87.0 percent) and games played in a career (127). His 396 career assists rank third at Utah State.

Brown, from Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah, also ranks second in Big West Conference history in career free throw percentage and third in the league in career three-pointers made.

During his four years, Utah State posted a 94-33 record and advanced to two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT Tournament. In 2001, Brown hit a short jumper to force overtime against Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies went on to win that game, recording their first tournament victory since 1970.

Green is one of Utah State's most decorated basketball players, having earned All-America honors in 1960 and 1961, as well as all-Skyline honors in each of his three years (1960-62). Green, a 6-4 forward, set the Aggie career rebounding record with 1,067, which still stands today. He is also the fourth-leading scorer in Utah State history with 1,890 points.
Green also produced some of the best individual seasons in school history as his 745 points in 1962 are still second at Utah State, while his 403 rebounds in 1960 remain a school record for a season.

Green, who is from Richmond, Calif., was selected in the fifth round of the NBA draft by Chicago in 1962, but went on to a 10-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys where he was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times and played in two Super Bowls despite not having played college football.

In Green's three seasons with the Aggies, Utah State went to the 1960 NIT, winning two games there before winning an NCAA Tournament game in 1962.

Green has spent the last 18 years as a college scout for the Denver Broncos, working out of Dallas, Texas.

Two more Aggies will be selected at Saturday's home game (Jan. 22) against UC Riverside as Utah State celebrates its 100th season of basketball.
