Cache County dispatch received a non-emergency call on Sunday, April 9, at 10:15 p.m. from an individual claiming there was a shooter at the Utah State University Library. Police promptly responded and followed planned protocols for an armed aggressor. Police were able to verify quickly that the call was a hoax. They stayed until the library closed to ensure the safety of students and employees.

USU Police takes this hoax extremely seriously and is following up in collaboration with the FBI.

When police respond to potential armed aggressor situations, it can be stressful for those who are in the vicinity. Mental health resources are available for both students and employees. Students can reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services to talk to a counselor, and employees can reach out to talk to a counselor through the Employee Assistance Program.
