USU Students in Advanced Clothing Studies: Patternmaking Create Designs Inspired by NEHMA Artworks
By Taylor Emerson |
In Melissa Clark's FCSE 3040 Advanced Clothing Studies: Pattern Making class, students have a bit of a unique assignment.
Inherited when she took on the course — Clark credits her colleague Amber Williams with setting up the collaboration initially — the assignment tasks students with creating a design that is inspired by a work of art on view at The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.
Once inspired, the students conceptualize a half-scale design all their own, and then go through the process of sewing and constructing their piece. It's capped off with a reception to showcase their works of art, for which NEHMA hosted last Friday, where the public was welcomed in to view the designs and speak with the designers.
