USU To Disburse Remaining $5 million in Federal COVID Relief to Students

Utah State University is disbursing its next round of federal COVID relief funds by sending a link to students who qualify to apply for the financial aid. Students who receive the link via email are asked to indicate their needs as part of the application, which should be completed by April 18.

“This is part of USU’s ongoing effort to disburse COVID federal relief funds in ways that directly impact students in need,” said Robert Wagner, vice president for Academic & Instructional Services.

Funding for this grant has been allocated to USU from the federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSAA) Act, to aid students with any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, books, technology, food, housing, transportation, health care (including mental health care) or childcare. This grant is intended to help students for both the spring and summer 2021 semesters.

Award amounts may vary and will be determined based on the need of students and funds available. Award notifications will be sent by email to students, within one to two weeks from the application deadline.

USU received an allotment of more than $8.7 million to distribute directly to students as part of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act in May 2020. This was part of phase one of federal relief to aid university students and the allotment has been completely expended and distributed. The approximate $5 million in CARES funds remaining came from the second allocation given to USU early in 2021 as part of CRRSAA. This is the second initiative to disburse funds to students from funds received under the CRRSAA.
