Teaching Experience
Beginning in 2006, Haley Somers has taught piano lessons to children ages 5 to 16 from her own private studio as well as through the Youth Conservatory at Utah State University. Over the years she has taught college-aged students and adults as well.
Her goals in teaching are to provide a setting where students learn to create music, become fine musicians, develop their skills and talents, gain confidence in themselves and their abilities, and develop characteristics that extend past the realm of music and help shape who they become. She realizes that the most important thing in teaching is the individual child and adjusts her teaching accordingly – what they are comfortable with, what would help them grow, how to best connect with them, and finally, to develop a relationship with them where they want to come to lessons and learn, making it the best possible experience for the student, parent and teacher.
In addition to private lessons, she has taught in classroom settings such as the Keyboard Harmony course at USU and assistant in the Youth Conservatory's Brillante theory class.
Currently, Haley is working on her Master of Music degree from Utah State University and is accepting students. Please feel free to contact her regarding lessons, she would love to discuss any special concerns or questions you may have regarding lessons or your student.
