David G. Sant Engineering Innovation (1937-2008)

This building is dedicated to David G. Sant, a major contributor in its construction and for his generosity in funding many scholarships in Utah State University’s College of Engineering. David grew up in Franklin County, Idaho, with parents who instilled in him a great work ethic. Within days of his high school graduation, Sant joined the United States Air Force where he was trained as an electronic technician. Although he enjoyed diagnosing and repairing electronic equipment, he decided he didn’t want to work on equipment, but instead he wanted to create new designs. David enrolled at USU in the general education program and earned a place on the Dean’s List his first quarter. He quickly changed his focus to the College of Engineering, where he graduated with a bachelor and master’s in electrical engineering in 1962 and 1964. After graduating from USU, David was hired by IBM as a diagnostic computer programmer. Working with IBM during this period was a real privilege as San Jose, California was the epicenter of the emerging computer industry. While working, Sant continued his studies at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, where he earned an MBA. After several years with IBM, David became a key contributor to the growth and evolution of the telecommunications industry.
