Little Naturalist
Lecture/Readings | Home, Family, and Food
Little Naturalist is the perfect program for 3 to 5 year olds who are curious about animals, their habitats, the environment, and exploring nature. Join us twice a month, October through May, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to read a specially selected nature-themed book, explore the natural world, and complete a craft. Some favorites include snowshoeing on the Preserve, interacting with live reptiles and amphibians, upcycling old materials into holiday decorations, and much more!
Cost is $2.00 per youth participant, or buy a $15.00 punch card good f or 10 programs.
Wild Wonders at Swaner

Join us for a live animal presentation by Wild Wonders. Meet and learn about some amazing animals from this wildlife rescue organization.
This is a family friendly, one hour program. Please plan to arrive BEFORE 11 am if you would like to see the whole program.

Trace the journey of the American Bison with Kurt Repanshek, award-winning journalist and author of Re-Bisoning The West, Restoring an American Icon to the Landscape. Explore a forward-thinking approach to returning bison to the West and improving the health of ecosystems.
Kurt Repanshek is an award-winning journalist well versed in public lands, wildlife, recreation, environmental, and development issues. He has a diverse journalistic background, having written about the rich biodiversity that lies within Great Smoky Mountains National Park and launched National Parks Traveler, the world’s top-rated editorially independent website dedicated to daily news and feature coverage of national parks and protected areas.

HawkWatch at Swaner

HawkWatch International is coming to Swaner! Join one of HawkWatch's Raptor Ambassadors for All About Owls: Owls are nature's silent hunters. Meet two different owls and learn about all the amazing adaptations that make these nocturnal birds the stealthiest raptors.
This is a family friendly, one hour program. Please plan to arrive BEFORE 1 pm if you would like to participate in the whole program.

DIY Native Bee House Workshop
Workshop/Training | Home, Family, and Food
$7 per person | $5 for Swaner members
Proceeds benefitting both the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter and Hollow Tree Honey Foundation
Noon - 1 PM
1 - 2 PM
2 - 3 PM
Utah is home to over 900 species of bees, which is about 20% of the 4,000 total species in the US! The majority of native bee species live solitary lives, and nest in the ground or small holes in trees and wood. Help native bees in your area or entice them to your garden with a homemade bee house made from recycled materials.
Build and keep a native bee box (easy for all ages), learn about native bees and honeybees, and how to plant seeds in your yard for these amazing pollinators. Native bee boxes, reeds, and seeds will be provided at this event.
SPACE IS LIMITED AND IS REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Looking for ways to reduce the plastic waste in your life? Join the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter and Recycle Utah for our Solutions to Plastic Pollution Workshop!
During this workshop we will discuss plastic alternatives, learn some DIY, cost effective, solutions, and talk about why reducing plastic is good for everyone.
Participants will have the chance to enter into an opportunity drawing full of all kinds of awesome plastic alternatives like _finalswab, Stasher Bags, Bee's Wrap, Simple Ecology Produce Bags, ZeroWaste Floss, and so much more!
This event is free to the public, tickets for the opportunity drawing can be purchased at the event. Participants will get a 15% discount on plastic alternatives in the Swaner Gift Shop.
