Little Naturalist

Little Naturalist is the perfect program for 3 to 5 year olds who are curious about animals, their habitats, the environment, and exploring nature. Join us twice a month, October through May, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to read a specially selected nature-themed book, explore the natural world, and complete a craft. Some favorites include snowshoeing on the Preserve, interacting with live reptiles and amphibians, upcycling old materials into holiday decorations, and much more!
Cost is $2.00 per youth participant, or buy a $15.00 punch card good f or 10 programs.

The BE Department's Seminar Series Speaker, Dr. Rebecca Gerth, Research Sales Engineer at Ripple Neuro, will present: "Going to the Dark Side - Choosing Industry".
February 3rd at 12:30 pm in ENGR 326
Over the last two decades, academic neuroscientists and engineers have dedicated their lives to developing brain-computer interfaces for the restoration of independence in amputees and paralyzed individuals. Ripple Neuro creates neural interfaces and medical devices to advance research and improve the lives of underserved patient populations. Engineers at Ripple work with academic partners, industry leaders, and clinical experts to solve the problems that still limit the translation of brain-computer interfaces. This presentation will highlight one engineer’s decision to transition to industry and the varied opportunities working for a biotech company provides.
A meet and greet with Dr. Gerth will be held immediately following the seminar in ENGR 326.

If you are currently receiving a Pell Grant, then you are eligible to apply for the Gilman Scholarship for study abroad! Fall 2020, Academic Year 2020-2021, and Summer 2020 applications are due March 3, 2020.
Come to one of our advising sessions for Gilman Scholarship applications to get an overview of the scholarship,
plus tips for essay writing. If you would like feedback from an advisor on your essays, you are welcome to bring them.
The sessions will be held in Military Science 217 (upstairs). Feel free to come and go as needed during the workshops.

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) representatives will provide information regarding the CIA and the variety of career and internship opportunities available. Speakers will discuss career opportunities across the Agency, application process, and allow time for questions. Undergraduates and Graduates of all academic disciplines are encouraged to attend. The CIA's primary mission is to collect, evaluate, and disseminate foreign intelligence to assist the President and senior US Government policymakers in making decisions related to national security. All CIA positions require US citizenship and relocation to the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Maharba Zapata, Founder and Owner of The Salsa Queen
Maharba immigrated to the US with her family when she was still a teenager and spoke no English. When her first child was born, she spent 11 months practically living at the Children’s Hospital after he was diagnosed with leukemia and unfortunately, he passed away. Following a divorce, she found herself needing to provide for her seven children without any work experience or even a high school degree. It was important that her new business reflect her love of cooking and cultural background, which is how Salsa Queen was born.

This USU's Year of the Women event will focus on women's empowerment in sports and promoting awareness of eating disorders among college students on the National Women in Sports Day (February 6). Our keynote speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Joy, is the Medial Director for Community Health, Health Promotion and Wellness, and Food & Nutrition at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, UT. Dr. Joy has been a well-respected medical doctor specializing in sports medicine eating disorders and also a leading researcher of the Female Athlete Triad, physical activity promotion, and diabetes prevention.
