Every Body Rocks: Nutrition Series

February is National Eating Disorder Awareness month and to bring more awareness to this issue, we will be teaching Every Body Rocks classes (from the curriculum designed by Brooke Parker, RD). This is a series of classes promoting Intuitive Eating and positive body image. There will be 4 classes taught by senior USU Dietetic students. It is recommended that you come to all four classes as they will all have different content but you can attend just one class also. The curriculum is geared towards female students, however, there is something for everyone to learn from these classes so please join us! Register at recportal.usu.edu.

This week’s speaker is Joel Clark. Joel’s story is a study in perseverance. When his brother Jon handed operations of Kodiak Cakes over to him in 1997, Joel was a 23-year-old economics major attending the University of Utah. Over the next 12 years, Joel juggled side jobs, earned an MBA from Oxford University, and still found time to make Kodiak Cakes a success.

There will be 2 sessions happening in case one time doesn't work for you, one at 12:00 pm and the other at 7:00 pm. These will both take place in the JLSC cafeteria. Many Utah women take career breaks for various reasons, including raising children, assisting with elder care, and managing other responsibilities. Eventually, many women want to relaunch their careers, whether it is full-time, part-time, or even contract work. Yet, relaunching is intimidating for so many women. Often, we feel that we are not prepared for professional work after being at home and outdated in terms of skills, competencies, and professional networks. Don’t lose hope because you are more prepared than you think!

Now in her final semester at Georgetown University, Savanna Jones graduated from USU in 2018 with a degree in Political Science. During her time in law school, Savanna has interned for the National Network to End Domestic Violence, externed for the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission (the public defender’s office), and worked as a summer associate for Bailey & Glasser LLP, a mid-sized firm in D.C., where she focused on consumer litigation. Savanna has also served as both author and editor for the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law and currently works as a student attorney for the Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinic.

Utah Collegiate DECA’s Competitive Events Program allows students to put their experience, skills, and knowledge to the test while representing their college or university. Students compete for top state honors in one of 25 different competitions. Collegiate DECA competitive events recognize student achievement, provide opportunities for traveling to conferences and networking with peers. The Utah Collegiate DECA Competitive Events Program is recognized for helping to prepare students for their professional careers. Students are judged by business and industry professionals in all Collegiate DECA competitive events.

Come and learn about the 10 principles of Intuitive Eating! Intuitive eaters march to their inner hunger signals and eat whatever they choose in a satisfying way, without experiencing guilt or an ethical dilemma. The Intuitive Eater is an unaffected eater. Our goal is to help you create a healthy relationship with food by discarding the diet mentality and teaching you how to listen to the messages of your body. Let's bring the pleasure back to eating.
