Ecology Center Workshop: Data Visualization with ggplot()

Please join us for our fifth coding workshop in our new coding workshop series on Tuesday February 21st from 3:00-5:00 PM MT in NR 217. This workshop is for folks who are interested in getting a more in-depth understanding of the data visualization capabilities of tidyverse, with an emphasis on ggplot(). We will cover: 1) Reminder: How do we use tidyverse 2) Useful functions to know for data visualization 3) What is ggplot? 4) Plotting data + bonus intro to sf()
USU Tooele Campus Tours

Join our local Admissions Specialist Mike Booth for tours of the USU Tooele campus facilities and to learn more about college in Tooele. Tours last approximately 30-40 minutes and all guests will receive free Aggie Ice Cream on providing contact information for the university. Feminist Killjoy in the Workplace: Sara Ahmed

To be a feminist killjoy (or another kind of institutional killjoy) means not only confronting institutional problems but challenging how institutions use our efforts to change them as evidence they have changed. The lecture explores how being feminist killjoys at work means recognizing that the figure of the feminist killjoy can be appropriated and neutralized. Being feminist killjoys at work also requires finding other institutional killjoys, because the more we come up against, the more we need more.

In this lecture I explore what we come to know about institutions from our efforts to transform them. I will draw especially on two chapters “The Feminist Killjoy as Philosopher” and “The Feminist Killjoy as Activist,” from my forthcoming The Feminist Killjoy Handbook. On Thursday, February 23, the USU Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water, and Air is pleased to feature Darren Parry, the former chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, at a speaking event starting at 6:00 p.m in the David B. Haight Center. During the presentation, Parry will discuss our changing world and natural resources from an indigenous viewpoint. The event is free and open to everyone to attend.

Welcome to Scenario B: Lessons in survival from our national parks. My presentation will highlight three projects spanning my 30-year career in the National Park Service. Each project involves aspects of indigenous knowledge, science, and rational planning (endangered species management in Hawaii, river restoration at Olympic National Park, and subsistence management national parks in the Arctic region. I'll highlight the resulting exigent questions of policy and federal land management that are driven by our rapidly changing climate. I'll close with personal observations and lessons learned.
