In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, MS Copilot, Dall-E, etc., as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address how they work and ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. We'll discuss syllabus language, AI detection tools, and ways to encourage students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and demonstrate their own capabilities. We'll also share some ideas and examples of AI as a teaching tool.

We will pack everything we need in rafts and leave civilization behind to travel downstream through the Desolation wilderness. We will enjoy sandy beaches, historical sites, and numerous rapids that fill this 84-mile section of river. Participants must be able to swim, prepared for moderate physical activity, and six days in a hot desert wilderness environment with temperatures over 100° F (38°C). Faculty/Staff: $850 Faculty Staff w/ARC Membership: $750 Trip costs include food, permit, transportation, rafting equipment, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and OP leadership.

July 29-August 1, 2024 Join the Museum of Anthropology and NEHMA in a summer camp for children ages 6-12. Explore how experimentation in the arts and sciences leads to breakthroughs and discoveries. Learn through team building, art-making, and outdoor activities.
Restoration Consortium Workshop: Sediment Transport for Restoration Design
Workshop/Training
This course is intended for those who wish to understand and apply the principles of sediment transport to alluvial channel assessment and design. Principles of open channel flow and sediment transport are combined with watershed-scale, hydrologic and sediment source analysis to place channel assessment and design in the appropriate context. Tools for estimating sediment supply at the watershed to reach level are applied in class exercises. Threshold and alluvial channel design methods are presented along with guidelines for assessing and incorporating uncertainty. The course balances advance reading, lecture, field work, and hands-on exercises for estimating sediment supply, calculating sediment transport rates, and forecasting channel response to water and sediment supply. This course is intended for participants who are familiar with basic principles of river geomorphology.

July 29-August 1, 2024 Join the Museum of Anthropology and NEHMA in a summer camp for children ages 6-12. Explore how experimentation in the arts and sciences leads to breakthroughs and discoveries. Learn through team building, art-making, and outdoor activities.
Restoration Consortium Workshop: Sediment Transport for Restoration Design

This course is intended for those who wish to understand and apply the principles of sediment transport to alluvial channel assessment and design. Principles of open channel flow and sediment transport are combined with watershed-scale, hydrologic and sediment source analysis to place channel assessment and design in the appropriate context. Tools for estimating sediment supply at the watershed to reach level are applied in class exercises. Threshold and alluvial channel design methods are presented along with guidelines for assessing and incorporating uncertainty. The course balances advance reading, lecture, field work, and hands-on exercises for estimating sediment supply, calculating sediment transport rates, and forecasting channel response to water and sediment supply. This course is intended for participants who are familiar with basic principles of river geomorphology.

In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, MS Copilot, Dall-E, etc., as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address how they work and ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. We'll discuss syllabus language, AI detection tools, and ways to encourage students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and demonstrate their own capabilities. We'll also share some ideas and examples of AI as a teaching tool.

2024 Arrington Mormon History Lecture: Jana Riess
Lecture/Readings
Join Jana Riess, author and senior columnist for Religious News Service, for a lecture at the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall on October 7. When the first Next Mormons Survey was conducted in 2016, a key finding was that Latter-day Saint women in the U.S. were, on average, more certain in their beliefs about God, Jesus, and the church than LDS men. That may well be changing. Dr. Riess will unpack the 2022-23 Next Mormons Survey’s findings about LDS women and religiosity, placing them in the larger context of the shifting American religious landscape.
