A Conversation About Civil Discourse With Brent Hill
Panel Discussion/Presentation | Aggies Think, Care, Act
Neil Abercrombie, USU vice president for government relations, will facilitate a conversation with Brent Hill, the Next Generation Program Director for the National Institute for Civil Discourse. Brent retired from the state legislature in 2020 after serving 19 years in the Idaho State Senate, 10 years as President Pro Tempore, the highest-ranking member of the Idaho State Senate. Brent is an Aggie who earned a bachelor's in accounting. He frequently contributes to newspapers and other publications and is the author of the book A Matter of Principle, which explores the fundamental ideals that guided America’s founders. USU’s Bringing War Home Project sponsors a book discussion event on the Utah State University campus in Logan. Join us for a facilitated book discussion of Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, where we will discuss the first short story of the novella, invite participants to share their own and family experiences of war, and provide further resources and writing exercises. Yin yoga is a slow-paced, passive type of yoga that incorporates long holds and stretching designed for deep contemplation and mind-body awareness. Dr. Kageyama will present a live, online, 4-session interactive workshop: Performance Psychology Essentials. Participants will learn how to develop the key mental skills improve effectiveness in the practice room and on stage. Meetings occur once a week via Zoom, participants go through the relevant research on four essential psychological skills, try a range of different exercises and techniques together as a group, and then practice integrating the new skills into your daily practice. Participants will make “before and after” videos each week for feedback.

More than 40% of insect species are declining and a third are endangered. Monarch Butterflies population has plummeted 99.9% since the 1980s. This poses a tremendous risk to our ecosystem. This talk will reflect on how Patricia's love for bees has led her on a path that transformed how she approaches design as activism while harnessing the creative process. She believes that landscape architects have an important role and the potential to make a big impact for insect survival.

Let Her Light Shine: Memorial Walk for Lauren McCluskey

On the third anniversary of Lauren McCluskey's death, Utah State University will host a memorial walk at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium. This event will be to honor the incredible Lauren McCluskey as well as raise awareness about relationship violence and important resources.
Participants will be encouraged to sign Lauren's Promise, a pledge to believe victims of threatening behavior.
We will begin our walk at the track field, following keynote speakers, and will end our walk at the South entrance of Maverik Stadium prior to the USU Football Homecoming Game.
Wilderness First Aid Course
Workshop/Training
The Wilderness First Aid course is a great introduction to wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. It is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast who wants more than an urban first aid course provides. The emphasis of the class is on recognizing and treating life-threatening traumatic and medical emergencies, common wilderness injuries, bandaging and splinting, and environmental injuries. CPR is included in the curriculum.
This course is taught in partnership with DesertMountainMedicine.
Running of the Bulls 5K

Join fellow Aggies in completing the Homecoming 5K run/walk wherever you are or in-person beginning on the Logan campus ending on Main Street just in time to join the Homecoming Parade. Note, this is a point-to-point race so participants must park at the Logan Tabernacle and ride the shuttle up to the starting line or get their own ride back to campus to their car. Shuttles begin at 7:15 AM and the last shuttle will leave promptly at 8:00 AM!
MWC-Evans Writers' Workshop for Auto/Biography, Memoir, and Family History

Or do you have a start on a project but need some additional inspiration or maybe a nudge to take it from concept to composition? Writers of all expertise levels are invited to a Writer’s Workshop for Auto/Biography on Saturday, October 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Utah State University - Salt Lake Center in Taylorsville. This event is being hosted by the Mountain West Center at Utah State University in connection with the Evans Biography Awards. The 2021 Homecoming parade will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at 10am.
The parade route runs along Main Street from Center Street to 800 North in Logan.
Aggie Music Fest

The USU Veterans Resource Office (VRO) invites the public to the Aggie Music Fest on Saturday, October 23 at the Blue Square Apartments in Logan. The event will feature live music and free hot chocolate samples from the Aggie Chocolate Factory.
The event is free, but $5 donations are welcome and encouraged. Those interested in donating may do so in person or visit https://www.usu.edu/adayofgiving/veterans. Proceeds support services for student veterans, including the tutoring program and technology upgrades for the VRO student lounge. Come enjoy the musical talents of Justin Warnick, Tori Smith, Two Headed Trout, Ari and the Bandidos, Sky Olson and Kooper. We hope to see you there!
