At this point, it’s hard to see any hope of positive change. Join us to learn about burnout and how to bring more normalcy back into your life. In this training, we will define burnout and learn how it differs from stress, identify the causes of burnout and eventual outcome, and explore tips for avoiding and recovering from burnout. *Presentation will not be recorded. Springboard to Action! Rethinking Student Assessment

The "Springboard to Action!" series events are yearly workshops sponsored by the Office of the Provost and Empowering Teaching Excellence. These workshops are designed for USU instructors to dedicate the day and implement a practice in their teaching that they had been planning on doing. Each Springboard workshop has a different theme. This year's "Springboard to Action Series" is rethinking student assessment with a focus on implementing ungrading practices into course construction. Participants will be presented with several short ignition ideas by facilitators, participate in breakouts, implement their own practices, and receive feedback from their group and designated facilitator.

Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid Course

American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Blended Learning course helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. CPR/AED & First Aid for Professional Rescuers

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid course is to instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. Register at recportal.usu.edu.

Ecology Center Workshop: Introduction to Google Earth Engine

Please join us for our seventh coding workshop in our new coding workshop series on Tuesday March 14th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM MT in NR 217. This workshop is for folks who are interested in getting introduced to the basics of the cloud-based remote sensing platform Google Earth Engine (GEE). GEE is a powerful tool for research, providing access to massive open-source spatial datasets (e.g. satellite imagery, climate, topography, land use/landcover, among many others), with access to Google's high power computing resources to perform complex analyses. This workshop will cover: a) What is GEE and how does it differ from other GIS platforms? b) Intro to JavaScript and the GEE API c) Importing and visualizing a satellite image d) Importing, filtering, and visualizing image collections e) Accessing information about datasets

Leveling Up with Active Learning

In September 2019, a study conducted at Harvard University was published. It focused on the response of students to different instructional approaches – specifically passive lecturing versus active learning. Based on prior research, the authors believed that students would learn more in active learning environments but they wanted to understand why so many students and faculty remain hesitant to switch to active learning. This Sparkshop workshop will discuss some of the findings of that study and offer several ideas and examples of ways to incorporate active learning strategies in a variety of classroom settings. It will also focus on group learning and how to facilitate dialogue, connection, exploration, and understanding among and between students.

Please join us for the ninth coding workshop in the Ecology Center's coding workshop series on Tuesday March 28th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM MT in NR 217. Equally important to analyzing spatial data is being able to visually display results. Maps and visual representations of data are critical to communicating spatial information quickly and clearly. This workshop is for folks who are interested in learning how to create informative and aesthetically interesting plots of spatial data in R. This workshop will cover: a) Short review on importing, wrangling, and manipulating spatial data using the sf() package b) Basic principles of good map-making c) Mapping vector and raster data using tmap() and ggplot() d) Basic sf() functions for extracting data stats from map layers e) Creating maps interactive maps with tmap()

USU Be Well and Registered Dietitian, Brooke Lister, present a lunch and learn on Food As Medicine. Food As Medicine is a growing movement that promotes using food and nutrition interventions as part of healthcare. Diet quality is one of the leading risk factors for death from chronic diseases in the United States which is partially fueling the Food As Medicine movement. Diet alone cannot and should not replace medicine in all circumstances but it can be helpful in promoting health and protecting our body from disease. In this presentation, we will be going through each food group and discussing ways that we can include these beneficial foods from each category in our diets to help create better lifestyle habits.

Trauma-informed Training for Student Services (TIPSS)

We are excited to announce a new professional development opportunity for Student Services staff called "Trauma-Informed Practices for Student Services" (TIPSS). Our training series will feature speakers who specialize in supporting mental health and trauma in schools and higher education settings. By attending TIPSS, you will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to provide sensitive and effective support to students who have experienced trauma. In addition to trauma-informed practices, we will also cover topics such as compassion fatigue and self-care for those supporting others. This event is open to both faculty and staff. Our first series will take place on Thursday, March 30th at 9:00 am in HSL 129. We hope to see you there!
