The Bear Lake Needs Assessment Documentation & Visualization Project, led by assistant professor Jared Ragland and USU photography students, captures the intersection of Bear Lake's natural ecology and human use through documentary photography. This collaborative project showcases research-driven imagery on key topics such as agriculture, water management, and development, while highlighting the vital work of USU researchers and local community partnerships. The exhibition will be featured at the Tippets and Eccles Gallery and in USU’s Special Collections and Archives. This work was created in partnership with USU’s Institute for Land, Water, and Air and funded by a Bear Lake Needs Assessment grant administered by Utah Forestry, Fire, and State Lands.

Come work outside on the community farm! The Utah Conservation Corps' Urban Community Farm grows fresh produce to donate to local food pantries. Make sure to wear warm clothes that are comfortable to work outside in, bring closed-toed shoes and maybe a hat. All ages are welcome and admission is free. Hands-on learning activities and refreshments follow the talk. Artificial intelligence – AI – captures our imaginations with its rocketing innovation and surging accessibility. AI-generated text, video, images and voices seem like magic, yet can also be a wolf in sheep’s clothing with incorrect and misleading information. How do we harness this amazing tool, while curbing potential harm? Data scientist John Lawson, who uses AI to predict weather hazards, explores what it means, and the diverse skills, knowledge and precautions needed, to create trustworthy AI.

The Music Box Concert Series: Chamber Music Concert

What is chamber music? How many members does the ensemble have? Come and learn more about this form of classical music, also known as "music of friends." USU students, members of the String Trio and Piano Quartet, will play for you and present their instruments.
Music Box Concerts are 30-45 minute programs presented by the USU Music Department students and guests. They are designed to provide young children access to live music concerts and are sponsored by the Music Department in the Caine College of the Arts and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Education Endowment.

An exhibition of half-scale fashion created by USU students in FCSE 3040, Advanced Clothing Studies: Patternmaking. Each design is inspired by a work of art on view at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art. A reception for the student designers will be held November 16, 2024 from 2-4pm. The designs will be on display from November 16-26.

The Logan Canyon Winds, the faculty wind quintet at Utah State University, welcome you to their fall recital, featuring works by Robert Muczynski, Francis Poulenc, Carl Nielsen and Dmitri Shostakovich. Comprised of Dr. Jeiran Hasan (flute), Marilyn Cole (oboe), Thiago Ancelmo (clarinet), Dr. Joel Ockerman (horn) and Leon Chodos (bassoon), the quintet will also be joined by guest artist Amy Glenn (piano) in this recital. USU Eastern, WILD 2400: Wildland Resources Techniques class will present their final research presentation at the Price Office of the Bureau of Land Management, BLM on Thursday, Nov. 21st from 9am-11am. Students in the Wildlife Ecology and Management major at USU Eastern will lead a group presentation. Students in this Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) and Research, Scholarship, & Creative Inquiry Intensive (RSCI) designated course will present their findings of a CURE (Classroom Undergraduate Research Experience). Cranksgiving is a national annual bike race/food drive/scavenger hunt/party on bikes. After registering, you and your team of 2-4 people will meet at Aggie Blue Bikes (located at the junction of Military Science and the Fieldhouse) at 10am to receive instructions and a "manifesto" which will be your guide for the event. The manifesto will have a list of grocery stores to visit and a list of food items requested by the Cache Food Pantry. You and your team will plan a route, bike to the stores, and purchase the food on the list. There will also be bonus stops where you and your team must complete a challenge. Once you have everything, we will all meet at the Cache Food Pantry at 1pm to donate the food and for participants to get prizes. Registration for this event is free, but participants should anticipate spending upwards of $15 on groceries.

In a time when respectful dialogue and understanding are more essential than ever, we invite community members, leaders, and advocates to join us for an engaging panel dedicated to fostering civility and dignity across Utah. Tami Pyfer will discuss the Dignity Index, which serves as a powerful tool for measuring and promoting dignity in our interactions. This framework helps individuals and organizations assess their impact on others and encourages practices that uphold the inherent worth of every person. Becky Edwards will talk about her passion around electing responsive, thoughtful Utahns who will focus on civility and have complex policy conversations that focus on true governing. Civility and dignity are overarching topics important to A Bolder Way Forward (BWF). The BWF aims to inspire Utahns to engage in civil discourse and make meaningful connections across differences. To do this, we encourage Utahn’s across the state to focus on active listening, empathy, and respectful communication, which will pave the way for creating positive change in Utah.

Colorado Plateau Dark Sky Cooperative’s Quarterly CONNECTIONS

TODAY’s TOPIC: Cultural Connections with the Night Sky People connect with the night sky in many ways. In this session, we will discuss how our experiences and culture shape our relationship, our values, and perspectives towards dark night skies. Our guest speakers include Ben Rupert, Cultural Specialist and Destination Development Lead for Nevada's Indian Territory, and Ravis Henry, Park Interpretive Ranger, with the National Park Service, Canyon de Chelly National Monument. The Quarterly CONNECTIONS include a series of interactive virtual meetings focused on ways to minimize light pollution and support the preservation and promotion of naturally dark night skies. The Ecology Center is honored to host Dr. Xiaofeng Xu, Principle Investigator of the Ecological Modeling and Integration Lab within the Biology Department at San Diego State University.
Dr. Xiaofeng Xu is a global change ecologist with a strong quantitative skill for ecological research. His major research interests are investigations of terrestrial biogeochemistry–climate feedback with a data-model integration approach. He is currently focusing on microbial macroecology and applications of ecological and evolutionary theories to understanding microbial contributions to carbon cycle and greenhouse gas flux in an Earth system modelling framework.

The word "muse" describes a source of inspiration. This annual music therapy concert aims to highlight the multi-faceted sources of inspiration for USU music therapy students both personally and professionally. In our field of study, we often talk about “self as instrument”, or rather, being the instrument of change within the therapeutic relationship. During MUSES, we get to shift our focus to also celebrate our external musical skills and instruments as extensions of ourselves, and the tools by which we get to share creative self-expression with the world. Concert goers will enjoy original compositions in addition to contemporary and classical pieces that have been intentionally chosen to represent the experiences of our students and potential clinical applications of these works in music therapy practice. 13,000+ Years of Indigenous History in Eastern Utah

Eastern Utah is well-known for the spectacular rock art found in places like Nine Mile Canyon and the Puebloan architecture of Bears Ears National Monument and other landscapes. But the stories of the indigenous people who have called this land home for millennia are also preserved in much less notable sites that reflect the ephemera of daily activities such as cooking a meal or making a tool. Join Dr. Tim Riley as he explores the material history of this landscape with a focus on how we can learn more about people from the objects they left behind and how we can visit these places today with minimal impact and maximal respect.
