Cache Symphony Orchestra

The Cache Symphony Orchestra was created over 35 years ago as a way for community members in the Cache Valley region to make music, meet with fellow musicians, and provide another source of fine classical music to the community.
The Orchestra is made up of community volunteers. It started with only a handful of musicians and has grown to a grand symphony with over 90 members. For the regular season, the orchestra performs on the campus of Utah State University twice a year: winter and spring.

November 9 (at NEHMA): Margaret Bruton Terrazzo Art Along with her two sisters Esther and Helen, Margaret Bruton left her native San Francisco to study at the Art Students’ League in NYC. Known collectively as the “Famous Bruton Sisters”, they were part of the Bohemian Renaissance in early twentieth-century San Francisco. Make a terrazzo inspired art piece with us to celebrate Bruton and her work, Untitled, featured in our museum.
Flores Family Community Garden End of Season Service
Special Event
Lend a hand at the Flores Family Community Garden. The work will be muddy and dirty, so dress accordingly! We'll be moving horse panels, filling raised beds, building a greenhouse, cutting logs, and constructing a hay shelter. Bring work gloves, earplugs, and protective eyewear if you have it! We'll have a small collection of work gloves that you can borrow from. Registration necessary as lunch will be provided--see AggiePulse link.
USU Intercollegiate Day of Service - Zootah Zoo Lights Prep

On November 9, 2024, Utah State will be participating in Intercollegiate Day of Service by volunteering at Zootah in Logan. We will be helping Zootah set up lights for their annual Zootah Zoo Lights. Communitas - David Benjamin Sherry
Arts/Entertainment
David Benjamin Sherry is an artist working to challenge and reinvigorate the American Western landscape tradition by examining our complex interconnection with the natural world, with an emphasis on queer identity, color, and magic. Sherry’s work aims to celebrate the beauty of the American landscape and engage with the fraught history of the West, with its glorified legend of freedom fabricated from stolen lands, which continue to be threatened today. Through the media of analog film photography and painting, his vibrant, large-scale and often monochrome works present a new perspective on the subject. Sherry states that “color is a conduit for me to convey and promote an emotional resonance for the landscape, while weaving in my sense of otherness as a queer person, and to symbolically represent those who have been inaccurately left out of the American West’s mythical narrative of rugged (straight, white, male) individualism.”
Sherry was born in Stony Brook, New York, and lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He received his BFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003 and his MFA in photography from Yale University in 2007, where he was awarded the Richard Dixon Welling Prize. In 2010, he received the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Visual Arts Grant. A multi-part installation of his work was exhibited in Greater New York 2010 at MoMA PS1, New York. Sherry taught Western landscape and large-format photography as a distinguished faculty member at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018. In the fall of 2020, he joined the Yale MFA Photography program as a visiting critic, and in 2023, he taught the Graduate Seminar in Photography at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Come work outside on the community farm! The Utah Conservation Corps' Urban Community Farm grows fresh produce to donate to local food pantries. Make sure to wear warm clothes that are comfortable to work outside in, bring closed-toed shoes and maybe a hat. They will provide work gloves, so don't feel that you need to bring any, but you're welcome to. It's right by the ropes course on The Island, above Herm's. The Music Box Concert Series: Chamber Music Concert

What is chamber music? How many members does the ensemble have? Come and learn more about this form of classical music, also known as "music of friends." USU students, members of the String Trio and Piano Quartet, will play for you and present their instruments.
Music Box Concerts are 30-45 minute programs presented by the USU Music Department students and guests. They are designed to provide young children access to live music concerts and are sponsored by the Music Department in the Caine College of the Arts and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Education Endowment.

This collaborative project showcases research-driven imagery on key topics such as agriculture, water management, and development, while highlighting the vital work of USU researchers and local community partnerships. According to Hindu mythology, It is celebrated as victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. It is celebrated with lightening up the diyas (type of candles) as a sign of bringing light in the life.

This concert will feature the Caine Jazz Combo, a guest artist, and jazz students from the Music Department performing standard jazz tunes. The jam session is open to everyone, and attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in. Jam sessions take place on the Hub Stage on the first floor of the Taggart Student Center, near the food court.

USU Eastern, WILD 2400: Wildland Resources Techniques class will present their final research presentation at the Price Office of the Bureau of Land Management, BLM on Thursday, Nov. 21st from 9am-11am. Students in the Wildlife Ecology and Management major at USU Eastern will lead a group presentation. Students in this Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) and Research, Scholarship, & Creative Inquiry Intensive (RSCI) designated course will present their findings of a CURE (Classroom Undergraduate Research Experience). Symphonic Band

Concerts are part of the band’s large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Participation in these events is a significant component of students’ grades, and the concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. All concerts are associated with one or more of the following band ensembles: MUSC 4700 Wind Orchestra, MUSC 3795 Wind Symphony, MUSC 3790 Symphonic Band, and MUSC 3785 Marching Band.

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Loaves & Fishes Community Meal

Honor the legacy of Val Christensen by pitching in at the Loaves & Fishes Community Meal! Volunteers are needed for food preparation. Additional volunteer shifts available on Saturday 12/7. Loaves & Fishes is non-denominational, but takes place inside First Presbyterian Church in Logan because there is a commercial kitchen there. The Tri-State Band Symposium is an Honor Band Experience for the Sri-State's finest wind and percussion players and their directors. Annually hosting around 150 of the finest wind and percussion players from the region's finest high schools, this event has attracted students and directors from Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming and Colorado. It features internationally-recognized clinicians as well as the finest performers from Utah State.

Honor the legacy of Val Christensen by pitching in at the Loaves & Fishes Community Meal! Volunteers are needed for prepping and serving food, bussing tables, washing dishes, music and entertainment, and helping set up and take down.
Loaves & Fishes is non-denominational, but takes place inside First Presbyterian Church in Logan because there is a commercial kitchen there. Volunteers are enthusiastically encouraged to grab a plate and sit next to community members that they might not ever meet outside of this free meal. Multiple shifts available throughout the day.

The word "muse" describes a source of inspiration. This annual music therapy concert aims to highlight the multi-faceted sources of inspiration for USU music therapy students both personally and professionally. In our field of study, we often talk about “self as instrument”, or rather, being the instrument of change within the therapeutic relationship. During MUSES, we get to shift our focus to also celebrate our external musical skills and instruments as extensions of ourselves, and the tools by which we get to share creative self-expression with the world. Concert goers will enjoy original compositions in addition to contemporary and classical pieces that have been intentionally chosen to represent the experiences of our students and potential clinical applications of these works in music therapy practice. 13,000+ Years of Indigenous History in Eastern Utah
Lecture/Readings
Eastern Utah is well-known for the spectacular rock art found in places like Nine Mile Canyon and the Puebloan architecture of Bears Ears National Monument and other landscapes. But the stories of the indigenous people who have called this land home for millennia are also preserved in much less notable sites that reflect the ephemera of daily activities such as cooking a meal or making a tool. Join Dr. Tim Riley as he explores the material history of this landscape with a focus on how we can learn more about people from the objects they left behind and how we can visit these places today with minimal impact and maximal respect.
