It's a New Day (Student Empowerment Week)
Student Activities
Have you always wanted to try something new but never had the motivation? Well, today is the day! Start on a certification, learn something new, schedule an appointment to plan your future profession, or reach that new running time. There are so many new things you can try and this event will help with that. Go out of your comfort zone and do something you always wanted to do. Try it, learn from it, and grow from it.
Start by Believing Day
Fair/Festival
Visit a pledge booth across the state on this day to learn how to respond to a survivor when they disclose their experience to you. Then, take the pledge to start by believing; making a personal commitment to respond to a survivor with belief and empathy, support that survivor on their road to justice and healing, and to end the silence and stop the cycle of violence within our communities. You can also take the pledge online throughout the month at startbybelieving.usu.edu and be sure to use the campaign hashtag #USUbelieves so we can track the number of pledges USU takes.
International Student Council Elections
Special Event
The International Student Council (ISC), advised by the Office of Global Engagement, is a student organization representing international students before the USU administration in all matters concerning co-curricular activities for international students.
Voting for the 2021-2022 ISC is April 6-7 at vote.usu.edu. For more information about candidates visit the candidate profile page.
MFA Exhibition #2
Arts/Entertainment
Josh Scott | Common Objective
This Exhibition is a result of my understanding of labor and how that translates to functional pottery and my studio practice. This body of work focuses on pots that perform specific tasks as well as pots that may not be used as often as maybe a mug or bowl. This creates a perceived hierarchy in the gallery space as well as in the home. My hope is that my work makes the user consider why they choose to employ a piece of pottery. Does it perform well? Does it feel comfortable in hand? Does it enhance the user's experience? These standards and careful consideration of the forms intended use are the foundations of my studio practice as well as this exhibition.
Casey Miller | Arid Visions
Inspired by reflections of both outer and inner worlds I have experienced while exploring the deserts of southern Utah. The desert landscape is filled with diverse flora that take on alien like forms, seeming as if I am observing life on another planet. Inhabiting a Terrain that can appear desolate at first, but eventually reveals its brilliance and becomes surprisingly vibrant.
In spite of the harsh unrelenting conditions the flora in this area not only survive; they thrive. The adaptations they have made result in the creation of an obscure yet alluring wilderness. Like an agave whose stunning layered leaves lure you in, but get to close and they will harm you. these lifeforms are admirably resilient and adaptable.

Barns, Cows, Tractors, Horses, Hay, and Farmers
Exhibition
Farming and agriculture, the activities that feed us, are not usually the focus of landscape and outdoor paintings. However, artists constantly find bucolic, farming, and pastoral scenes an intriguing mix of nature and humanity. Celebrating agriculture through art, Barns, Cows, Tractors, Horses, Hay, and Farmers focuses on paintings, prints, and sculpture from the collection. Instead of depicting landscape devoid of human presence, these works of art reflect the imprint of humanity on the land in many different ways. A timeline of USU agricultural milestones will accompany the exhibition.
Three Depression-Era Photographers In Utah
Exhibition
Dorothea Lange (b. New Jersey, 1895 –d. San Francisco, 1965), Russell Lee (b. Ottawa, Illinois 1903–d. Austin, Texas 1986), and Arthur Rothstein (b. 1915, New York –d. 1985, New Rochelle, New York) are the three photographers who were hired by the Farm Security Administration to document rural Utah in the late 1930s. The portraits of agricultural workers and their families, and the land that they worked, provide a unique picture of Utah’s rural past. Lange, Lee, and Rothstein, all well-known photographers when they were hired for this project, took their photographs in rural towns and counties in Utah and these photographs include imagery of Box Elder and Cache Counties as well as Escalante, Santa Clara, Washington, and Widtsoe, Utah. The exhibition is comprised of 34 photographs by Lange, Lee, and Rothstein from the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art collection.
American Farmer
Exhibition
American Farmer celebrates the living spirit of our heartland through the faces and voices of the people who keep it alive. Featuring 45 color and black and white portraits in addition to interviews with farmers from across the United States, American Farmer tells the inspiring stores of the stewards of this land. When photographer Paul Mobley set out to capture the soul of our country’s farm communities, he encountered an enduring rural culture that remains rooted in the principles of tradition, family, integrity, and hard work. Crisscrossing the country from Alaska to Florida, Mobley’s photographs show the geographic and cultural diversity of the American farmer. His photographs are accompanied by anecdotes and memories of their subjects. American Farmer is a traveling exhibition organized by Exhibits USA.
Unlikely Allies: Creative Collaborations on Higher Education Sexual Misconduct Prevention

Washington State University Extension Sustainability Speaker Series
Panel Discussion/Presentation
Every day, we consume resources from the earth in the form of water, food, fiber, energy, and other resources. We are doing this at an unsustainable rate that will affect future generations and all life on earth. This rampant resource use is especially problematic in the United States. In this webinar, we review how ecological footprints are measured and the problems created by excessive resource use. We will present solutions to increase sustainability with examples from “Green Marketing.” Helping consumers “Go Green” through social influence and message framing at large scales can help shrink our ecological footprints and encourage us to adopt more responsible and environmentally friendly practices.
