Panelists include Michelle Smith, the Senior Vice President of People & Culture for the Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment; Paula Lynne Rosson, Chief Administrative Officer and Senior Vice President of the Gathering and Processing business unit of MPLX and MPC; Margo W. Cowley, Co-Owner of S-PM Commercial Property Management and Owner of Margo's Interiors; Ashley Morrey, SHRM Student President at USU.

Speaker Series: Caroline Lavoie

Join us for the the LAEP Speaker Series! On select Fridays throughout the semester, guest speakers from varying backgrounds share their experience and expertise, followed by a Q&A with students. Our very own Professor Caroline Lavoie will share about her sabbatical in, "India Sabbatical Experience."
Caroline Lavoie, AAPQ, CSLA, is French-Canadian American and is currently a professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at Utah State University, where she teaches planning, urban design, and landscape architecture. Caroline is also an artist who has exhibited her drawings around the world. Lavoie is the recipient of 2019 Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture CELA Award Senior level for excellence in Teaching Design Studios for the past 25 years. She recently returned from sabbatical in India.
Student Fee Town Hall

There will be presentations given by each fee administrator, explaining what our fees are used for and how they’ve been used differently due to COVID related changes. Then there will be a "question and answer" portion where students may ask questions directly to administrators. Questions may also be submitted prior to the event by direct messaging @usustudentassociation on Instagram. Students can attend in person or stream through Instagram Live (@usustudentassociation). This is a unique opportunity to learn more about how our fees are used and voice concerns directly to administration.
Feeling Like a Fraud: Navigating Perfectionism & Impostor Syndrome as Women

“Feeling like a fraud” is an issue that many women grapple with. In fact, research confirms that most women experience impostor syndrome in one or more areas of their lives. Impostor syndrome is a phenomenon that causes women to doubt their accomplishments or talents and have a persistent fear of being exposed as unqualified, even when there is ample evidence that they are competent. Perfectionism is one of the primary factors underlying this common experience, and it can negatively impact a woman’s confidence as well. Bringing in research findings, Dr. Susan R. Madsen will moderate a lively and engaging panel of Utah women leaders to discuss what causes impostor syndrome and perfectionism, why these challenges are so common among women specifically, and how we can more effectively navigate these experiences. By learning how to mitigate the negative effects of perfectionism and impostor syndrome, women can increase feelings of self-worth and confidence, strengthen aspirations and ambitions to lead, and become inspired to more fully engage in the community (locally, nationally, globally) as a support to other women and girls.
Budge Lecture: Rebecca Leonard & Steven Spears

Rebecca Leonard is the founder of Lionheart Places LLC in Austin, TX. She is a planner, designer and advocate for smart communities. After 20 years working for both the public sector and other consulting firms, she has witnessed many visions struggle towards implementation. Public private partnerships are particularly challenging for decision-makers, and they are her specialty.
Steven Spears is an independent landscape architecture design consultant and a principal with GroundWork Development Company. He has worked for 20+ years in the planning and design of numerous urban streetscapes, park and public realm, resort, private residential, mixed use, green infrastructure, corporate campus and master planned community projects. He methodically integrates the local values of economy, sustainability, culture, and human sensory. At the core is his relentless pursuit of sustainably integrating humanity and ecology.
