This group is an opportunity to discuss and support one another within the complicated and varied issues surrounding body liberation, with an emphasis on Body Justice and Fat Liberation, to illuminate the truth and move past societal/cultural messaging in an effort to liberate each individual participant. This group will provide: A safe space to explore societal impacts on group members’ relationship with their bodies, self-image, and health. A safe space to share individual and collective experiences of living in this society; including workplace, dating, family of origin, social media, health systems, etc. A safe space to authentically connect with others around experiences, thoughts, and feelings of living in a thin-obsessed, fat-phobic culture. Resources and information to learn more about the concepts of Body Justice, Fat Liberation, Health At Every Size, etc. This group is open to students, faculty, and staff. AJEDI Series: Heart2Heart Workshop

Our Nov. 4 speaker is USU physicist Rob Davies, who presents "Fantasies of Continuous Growth: Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU Logan campus. Dr. Davies will speak for about half an hour and then invite questions from the audience. LGBTQ+ Support Group is for students that identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and those that are questioning if they are a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Students are provided with the opportunity to get together in a safe environment where they can learn from, and support, each other. Each week, we will discuss important issues that LGBTQ+ individuals face with topics being chosen by those who wish to participate. This group will be co-facilitated by Jacob Cameron, a therapist from USU Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and Erika-Danielle Lundström, the Gender and Sexuality Coordinator at the Inclusion Center. Join the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and the Institute for Government and Politics on Monday, November 7th at 1:30PM in the David B. Haight Center for an interactive panel discussion with Alumnus David Jones and Political Science Department Head Dr. Damon Cann on “Is Trust in the Public Sector Broken?” David Jones graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Political Science, Pre-Law in 1990. He currently works for Salt Lake City Corporation in the Department of Public Services as a Public Way Coordination Program Manager, helping translate City engineering ideas and concepts into understandable dialogue connecting constituents and stakeholders with all departments in the city. Dr. Damon Cann, in addition to being Department Head and full professor of Political Science, focuses on themes of representation in American politics in his research. An avid supporter of community engagement, Dr. Cann served as mayor of North Logan City, a founding board member of the Utah Debate Commission, and as a board member with the Utah League of Cities & Towns. This group is an opportunity to discuss and support one another within the complicated and varied issues surrounding body liberation, with an emphasis on Body Justice and Fat Liberation, to illuminate the truth and move past societal/cultural messaging in an effort to liberate each individual participant. This group will provide: A safe space to explore societal impacts on group members’ relationship with their bodies, self-image, and health. A safe space to share individual and collective experiences of living in this society; including workplace, dating, family of origin, social media, health systems, etc. A safe space to authentically connect with others around experiences, thoughts, and feelings of living in a thin-obsessed, fat-phobic culture. Chamber Music Society of Logan: Imani Winds

Celebrating over two decades of music making, the twice Grammy nominated Imani Winds has led both a revolution and evolution of the wind quintet through their dynamic playing, adventurous programming, imaginative collaborations and outreach endeavors that have inspired audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The ensemble’s playlist embraces traditional chamber music repertoire, and as a 21st century group, Imani Winds is devoutly committed to expanding the wind quintet repertoire by commissioning music from new voices that reflect historical events and the times in which we currently live. Present and future season performances include a Jessie Montgomery composition inspired by her great-grandfather’s migration from the American south to the north, as well as socially conscious music by Andy Akiho, designed to be performed both on the concert stage and in front of immigrant detention centers throughout the country. Imani Winds regularly performs in prominent international concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Walt Disney Hall and the Kimmel Center. Their touring schedule has taken them throughout the Asian continent, Brazil, Australia.

USU AFROTC Detachment 860 will host a 24-hour vigil with uniformed guards honoring America’s prisoners of war (POW) and those soldiers still considered missing in action (MIA) in observance of Veterans Day. To start this vigil, an AFROTC cadet Honor Guard will post the colors on the Quad in front of a cadet formation. Spectators may observe the start of the vigil, and any portion, during the 24-hour period (5pm, 10 Nov, to 5pm, 11 Nov). POW and MIA service members are honored on Veterans Day, not Memorial Day, because they have not yet been officially declared Killed in Action.

Students are provided with the opportunity to get together in a safe environment where they can learn from, and support, each other. Each week, we will discuss important issues that LGBTQ+ individuals face with topics being chosen by those who wish to participate. Biases, Barriers, & Barricades for Utah Women: A Solutions-Based Workshop

Although some opportunities abound for women in Utah, there are still many challenges that keep women from contributing and thriving within various settings, including workplaces, educational institutions, politics, government, religious, and in the community at large. This in-person solutions-based workshop will focus on three complex issues in the state: decreasing sexism, increasing women in Utah politics, and stopping sexual assault and domestic violence.
This engaging workshop consists of short panels for each of these issues. After each panel, participants will join in a small groups discussion where ideas for solutions will be discussed and captured. An eagerly awaited tradition around the Music Department is our series of monthly jam sessions, in which a guest artist (or two or three) from outside Cache Valley visits to perform jazz standards with USU students and community members in a relaxed environment. Come and sit in on a tune, or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music. Jam sessions are completely unscripted, so you never know what exactly will happen, but it’s great fun watching musicians perform without a net!
As a recording artist known for using the saxophone with electronic effects, Josiah Boornazian is featured on multiple studio and live albums as a leader, sideman, and collaborator. Releases as a leader include Intersection, Live at Frost, Live at the UTRGV PAC, and ÌKAN ÌPÀKÓ Live, which feature Josiah's original modern jazz compositions and improvisations. Josiah is also prominent as a composer and improviser on the collaborative studio recordings Simply Begin Again and A Dark and Stormy Day (Fresh Sound New Talent Records), which feature a quartet Josiah co-leads with New York-based Italian pianist Alessandro Fadini.

Sensory Evaluation Test for Slushy Drinks
Special Event
Dr. Silvana Martini’s research team in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences are conducting a sensory evaluation test for mocha and coffee flavored slushy drinks. Participants will be asked to taste 5 samples of slushy drinks and rate their degree of liking using a 9-point hedonic scale (1 = dislike extremely, 9 = like extremely). The test will take approximately 15 min of your time including the screening process and signing the informed consent. Recruitment and screening of individuals will be performed via e-mail. Tasting will be performed on Nov 29th and Nov 30th starting at 9 am at NFS 209 until at least 60 participants are recruited. Participants will be compensated with $5 for their participation.
