USU Percussion Ensembles will perform works by Michael Burritt, Phillip Glass, Dave Hall, John Psathas, J.B. Smith, and Alejandro Vinao. Themes of the pieces range from the Madeira River in South America to aliens visiting earth, observing the humans, and not making contact. There is something for everyone at this concert!

USU Guitar Ensembles

The USU Guitar Ensembles Concert will showcase USU guitar students playing a variety of styles ranging from rock, funk, jazz, classical and other genres on both acoustic and electric guitars. The Guitar Ensembles Concert has been a tradition at USU for over 35 years and brings a unique and varied sound to the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. This year's concert features guest artist Danny Gottlieb, one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music, with the electric guitar ensembles.

Danny Gottlieb has appeared on more than 300 CDs, including four Grammy winners. As a leader, he has five CDs under his own name. He has been on the covers of Modern Drummer, Down Beat, Drums and Percussion, Rhythm, and Drum Scene magazines.

Utah Symphony in Logan: STEVEN OSBORNE PLAYS RACHMANINOFF’S PIANO CONCERTO NO. 2

Written after a period of debilitating writer’s block that not even Tolstoy could help solve, Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto was a full vindication of the composer’s early promise. Concert Highlights Include: Disappear into quiet contemplation with Rachmaninoff’s textless song, about which the composer asked the pondered “what need is there of words…” Scottish pianist Steven Osborne comes to Utah to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a work the composer reportedly sought the services of a hypnotist to unlock. Bergen National Opera Artistic and General Director Eivind Gullberg Jensen makes his Utah Symphony on the work Tchaikovsky modestly called the “best and most sincere of all my creations.”
