Themes of the pieces range from the Madeira River in South America to aliens visiting earth, observing the humans, and not making contact. There is something for everyone at this concert!

USU Guitar Ensembles

The USU Guitar Ensembles Concert will showcase USU guitar students playing a variety of styles ranging from rock, funk, jazz, classical and other genres on both acoustic and electric guitars. The Guitar Ensembles Concert has been a tradition at USU for over 35 years and brings a unique and varied sound to the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. This year's concert features guest artist Danny Gottlieb, one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music, with the electric guitar ensembles.

Danny Gottlieb has appeared on more than 300 CDs, including four Grammy winners. As a leader, he has five CDs under his own name. He has been on the covers of Modern Drummer, Down Beat, Drums and Percussion, Rhythm, and Drum Scene magazines.

Greet the winners of the annual Student Concerto Competition as they perform favorite works of the solo repertoire: Bella Fausett and Sidney Tovey (violin), Layton Loucks (baritone), Amy DeSpain (trumpet), and Hao-Wen Chang (piano). Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals.
