Aviation Week Annual Banquet and Silent Auction

Come celebrate the Flying Aggies at the annual Aviation Program Banquet at the Logan-Cache Airport. Join us for a big Flying Aggie Reunion Celebration where we will recognize our outstanding students and raise scholarship funds with any items you can donate for our silent auction. Three years ago we raised over $2,500 for our students with donated items such as airplane models, discovery flights, historical and aviation-themed items. Dinner is $15 for our students and faculty, $10 for youth under 16, and $25 for all others. All paid guests will receive the 2024 annual program coin! Dress is business casual (open-collar, nice pants, coat and tie are optional). We will have a guest speaker, celebrate our 85th Anniversary of Aviation degree at USU with a display, and have opportunities to fellowship with current students and alumni. We will be honoring our top students and present some financial student achievement awards.

During the program, FAs will have the opportunity to rotate through different teams to gain on-the-job exposure to all steps of a private markets investment – from sourcing, closing, managing the asset, through to exit. Welcome to Scenario B: Lessons in survival from our national parks About the Lecture: My presentation will highlight three projects spanning my 30-year career in the National Park Service. Each project involves aspects of indigenous knowledge, science, and rational planning (endangered species management in Hawaii, river restoration at Olympic National Park, and subsistence management national parks in the Arctic region). I'll highlight the resulting exigent questions of policy and federal land management that are driven by our rapidly changing climate. I'll close with personal observations and lessons learned. Speaker Bio: M. Sarah Creachbaum currently serves as the regional director for the National Park Service Alaska Region in Anchorage, Alaska. Creachbaum has served as a national park superintendent since 2006, first at War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam, then at Haleakala National Park, and at Olympic National Park, where she led the Elwha River Restoration Project, the largest dam removal and river restoration in the United States. She has also served in numerous temporary assignments including Superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park, acting Deputy

Music Scholars Series: Dr. Megan Lavengood

What is "our music"? As an institution in the intermountain West, USU is located in a place associated with many different kinds of music. The decisions we make about which of these we foreground have profound implications. What do our students deserve to learn? Which faculty have the responsibility—or the right—to teach each repertoire? And how, as a university, do we define the collective “us” we seek to serve? Dr. Megan Lavengood is an Associate Professor and Area Director of Music Theory at George Mason University, where she teaches undergraduate core theory and graduate courses in advanced theory topics. Her research primarily deals with popular music, timbre, synthesizers, and recording techniques. She has also published on video game music, music theory pedagogy, and public music theory.

Topic: I Want It That Way: Good Practices for Pop Music Pedagogy
This talk gives an overview of some prominent scholarly methods for analyzing popular music, and discusses issues surrounding the inclusion of pop music in music curricula. I discuss two common forms of pop music inclusion—through token examples that fit neatly into a classical-music-based curriculum, and through upper-level electives—and show how these approaches undercut popular music’s potential to be inclusive. I advocate instead for pop music to be included early in the curriculum as its own distinct repertoire, and present my own syllabus for a pop music theory course as a model. As time allows, I will elaborate on the analytical and compositional approaches students learn in that course, with the goal of giving audience members an idea of the tools they might use in their own future work with popular music, whether that be analyzing, composing, or teaching to young musicians.

The work in the exhibition represents a culmination of refined skills, ideas, and perspectives that took students several years to develop and master.

Paul Wiebel's journey is a testament to entrepreneurial vision and community dedication. As the Chairman of the Board of Econo-Pak, situated in Milford, PA, Wiebel has been at the helm of a company specializing in high-volume food packaging for some of the world's largest and rapidly emerging food corporations. Hailing from Parsippany, New Jersey, Paul's roots in entrepreneurship trace back to his youth as a dedicated Boy Scout for 12 years, achieving the esteemed rank of Silver Scout.
After graduating from Utah State, Wiebel founded Econo-Pak in the basement of his parent's home, a humble beginning that would eventually burgeon into a major enterprise. Over the years, he expanded Econo-Pak's operations from East Hanover to Franklin, NJ, finally acquiring a facility in Sussex, NJ, which he transformed into 1 Wiebel Plaza in 1978. Settling in Sussex County in 1979, Paul became an integral part of the community, actively contributing through initiatives like founding the Wiebel Family Foundation, dedicated to supporting local charities. Currently residing in Sparta, NJ, Paul Wiebel remains a prominent figure, not only in the business world but also as a philanthropist and community leader.
In 2014, Paul Wiebel elevated Econo-Pak's operations by moving to a state-of-the-art food packaging facility in Milford, PA, reflecting his commitment to innovation and growth. Beyond his success with Econo-Pak, Paul also manages various industrial properties within Sussex County, showcasing his diverse impact on the local business landscape.

The Intermountain Southwest Student Symposium will host its largest gathering yet, welcoming over 420 Civil and Environmental Engineering students and more than 80 professionals from 16 universities across 5 states to the USU Logan Campus. Set to be the largest event within the College of Engineering, attendees can expect a showcase of unparalleled talent and innovation. Spectators will be captivated by an impressive display of engineering strength and technical prowess through a variety of large-scale competitions, including Steel Bridge, Timber Strong, and the always thrilling Concrete Canoe races. Attendees will also showcase their knowledge in Sustainable Solutions, Surveying, Construction Institute, Transportation, Environmental Design, and the engaging Concrete Bowling.
All events are scheduled to take place on campus, except canoe races will be held at the picturesque Hyrum Reservoir.

In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address what they are capable of and the various ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. We'll discuss syllabus language, AI detection tools, and ways to encourage students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and demonstrate their own capabilities. We'll also share some ideas and examples of AI as a teaching tool.

The Intermountain Southwest Student Symposium will host its largest gathering yet, welcoming over 420 Civil and Environmental Engineering students and more than 80 professionals from 16 universities across 5 states to the USU Logan Campus. Set to be the largest event within the College of Engineering, attendees can expect a showcase of unparalleled talent and innovation. Spectators will be captivated by an impressive display of engineering strength and technical prowess through a variety of large-scale competitions, including Steel Bridge, Timber Strong, and the always thrilling Concrete Canoe races. Attendees will also showcase their knowledge in Sustainable Solutions, Surveying, Construction Institute, Transportation, Environmental Design, and the engaging Concrete Bowling.
All events are scheduled to take place on campus, except canoe races will be held at the picturesque Hyrum Reservoir.

Aggie Recreation Triathlon

Join us for our Campus Rec Triathlon on April 13! The race will be a 55 yards swim (11 laps), 12mi cycle on a spin bike, and then a 5k run. There will be 4 wave times at 8:30am, 9:15am, 10am, and 10:45am. All registrants get a shirt and race bib. There will be postrace food as well as various food and water stations throughout the race. Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female finishers. We will also be doing a giveaway for who has the best Aggie Spirit! Come out showing your Aggie Spirit by dressing in all the USU attire, paint your hair/body, or whatever ideas you come up with! The winner will be voted on during the award ceremony by all participants. We will have raffle items after the award ceremony, so make sure to stick around to see if your bib number is called. Weber County 4-H Cooking Challenge

A team of two members or an individual contestant will prepare and complete a dish highlighting the challenge ingredient. Dish must be completed and presented to the judges within a 40-minute timeframe. Contestants must prepare one complete plates of the dish for the judges. Contestants can prepare an appetizer, main course or a dessert. Contestants will have up to 3 minutes to: • describe the dish presented • tell how they highlighted the challenge ingredient • share some facts/knowledge about the challenge ingredient. Entries: Contestants may enter as an individual or a team of two. State level competition is open to only intermediate (6th-8th graders) and Senior (9th-12th graders) 4-H members at the state level. All grades divisions are as of Sept. 1 of each 4-H year.

The USU Flight Team and Aviation Technology will be hosting the annual Hangar Hop on April 13, 2024 from 7pm-11pm at the large USU Hangar FL9. The aircraft hangar will be transformed into a 1940's USO style hangar with live band music, a large 60' parachute overhead, and vintage aircraft for photos. Dress in period costume! This course is framed around participant desires for training and taking beginner and novice students through the process of risk management and decision making in a swift water setting. Although this course does meet the SSI standards for certification, because of the format students will only be able to achieve a 2 year certification and all recreation based students will receive a Verification of Training for the Recreational Boater with no expiration. Guides and other water professionals need to push themselves towards the PRO-I and achieve up to a 3 year certification, but can option into this course in order to receive training if nothing else is available. This may also be used as a recert module for those that cannot get into a PRO-I or a PRO-II (Cert/Recert length does not exceed 2 yrs in this class). This class is tempered for recreational enthusiasts with varied experience levels. We can discuss several different topics of importance to private boaters, and all knowledge gained in this class is positive.

Weber County 4-H Horse Hippology Contest

Join us on April 15, 22, and 20 at 7pm for the Horse Hippology Contest. Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members, by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive setting. The Hippology Contest has four (4) different phases: Examination, Station, Judging, and Team Problem 1. A team consists of no more than four (4) contestants. On teams consisting of four members, all will compete; however, the lowest score in each phase will be dropped. For those teams consisting of three members, all members' scores will count in determining individual and team awards. 2. Teams will be compete in their 4-H age divisions 3. Junior and Intermediate teams may be comprised of mixed 4-H ages. Mixed teams will compete in the division of their oldest member (3 juniors and 1 intermediate will be considered an intermediate team). Senior teams must only consist of senior aged youth for 4-H teams.

Swift Water Rescue PRO-1
Information/Orientation
This is a professional level swift water rescue course designed for those requiring certification as a term of employment in a professional capacity; this course teaches rescue techniques with regard to limited resources in a variety of river settings. This 2 day, 18 hr course (with online training) meets the needs of professional river guides as well as USFS, NPS, Search and Rescue teams, Field Biologists, and BLM employees. Additionally, this course is open to recreational river users wishing to train on the PRO track and have access to the PRO-II course not accessible through the REC track. Course focus is on personal safety, decision making, risk management, and complex problem solving with other team members having limited rescue resources and communication with outside parties. Utahns’ Perceptions of the Challenges Facing Women and Girls

During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline of public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes around challenges facing Utah women and girls. The 80-question survey provided baseline data needed by leaders of A Bolder Way Forward (BWF) and all Utahns interested in helping ensure that Utah girls and women better thrive. This webinar will highlight many of the results. The survey focused on the following areas: education (finance, higher education attainment, and K-12 initiatives); community engagement (political representation, boards and commissions, and civic engagement/ advocacy); safety and security (child sexual abuse, domestic violence, poverty and homelessness, sexual assault, and sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination); health and wellbeing (health across the lifespan and home and family); and workplace (childcare/pre-K programs, entrepreneurship, gender pay gap, leadership development, organizational strategies and workplace culture, STEM fields, and workforce development).

This is a professional level swift water rescue course designed for those requiring certification as a term of employment in a professional capacity; this course teaches rescue techniques with regard to limited resources in a variety of river settings. This 2 day, 18 hr course (with online training) meets the needs of professional river guides as well as USFS, NPS, Search and Rescue teams, Field Biologists, and BLM employees. Additionally, this course is open to recreational river users wishing to train on the PRO track and have access to the PRO-II course not accessible through the REC track. Course focus is on personal safety, decision making, risk management, and complex problem solving with other team members having limited rescue resources and communication with outside parties. Intersections of Practice: A Candid Conversation on Career Paths About the Lecture: What inspires you and drives your future career path? How does that inspired career intersect with your personal life? In this dialog, we’ll look at the differences between public and private sector practice in Landscape Architecture through a project-focused lens. Creasey will focus on providing transparent information and a wide variety of example projects to help new graduates make informed decisions about their future careers. Speaker Bio: Chris Creasey is a Landscape Architect with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District focused on large-scale interdisciplinary civil works and military projects throughout the Midwest and Mountain West. His practice includes work on tribal partnership lands bordering USACE managed waterways, interagency projects for NPS, Fish & Wildlife, and the Department of Energy, and stormwater management and master planning for seven military installations spanning five states. Chris began his career at Sasaki Associates in Boston where his practice included all phases of design, from planning to construction administration at a variety of scales.

A total of 129 individuals and three teams have now been inducted into the Utah State Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was founded in 1993 with 12 initial members, followed by eight members in 1994 and seven in 1995. The addition of any inductees was stopped until 2006, when five more individuals were added, followed by six recipients in 2007 and five in 2008, to go along with the first-ever team inducted. Seven more inductees were added in 2009, followed by six in 2010, five in 2011, plus two more national championship teams, eight in 2012, six inductees in 2013, 2014 and 2015, eight inductees in 2016 and 2017, and six more inductees in 2018 and 2020. Both the 2021 and 2022 classes consisted of four inductees each. In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the 2023 class was the first, 'all-female' induction class..

Join us on April 15, 22, and 20 at 7pm for the Horse Hippology Contest. Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members, by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive setting. The Hippology Contest has four (4) different phases: Examination, Station, Judging, and Team Problem 1. A team consists of no more than four (4) contestants. On teams consisting of four members, all will compete; however, the lowest score in each phase will be dropped. For those teams consisting of three members, all members' scores will count in determining individual and team awards. 2. Teams will be compete in their 4-H age divisions 3. Junior and Intermediate teams may be comprised of mixed 4-H ages. Mixed teams will compete in the division of their oldest member (3 juniors and 1 intermediate will be considered an intermediate team). Senior teams must only consist of senior aged youth for 4-H teams.

MFA Thesis Exhibition: After the Bloom and Squaring the Circle

Ashton Keen and Carter Pasma are ceramic Master of Fine Arts of Fine Arts graduate students in the Department of Art + Design. Ashton’s thesis exhibition, After the Bloom, and Carter’s thesis exhibition, Squaring the Circle, showcase their impressive and diverse ceramic work. Throughout their program, fine arts and design students work with their committee and other artists to develop advanced techniques, expand concepts, discuss critical issues, and emerge with a vision and direction for their work. This exhibition showcases years of dedicated refinement and mastery of skills, ideas, and perspectives.

Denim Day
Special Event
Denim Day is a campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement. As the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history, Denim Day asks community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.
Order of the Engineer

The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer.

Top Rope Night at the Climbing Wall

Join us at the Climbing Wall at the Aggie Recreation Center for our Top Rope Nights every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Weber County 4-H Fashion Review
Workshop/Training | Utah 4-H and Youth
This contest is open to youth in 3rd to 12th grade, at the county level and state level . All divisions: Junior (3rd-5th graders), Intermediate (6th- 8th graders) and Senior (9th- 12th graders) are based on Sept. 1 of the current 4-H year. Only Senior division youth can compete at the national level. We will be judging the sewing construction as well as modeling for the constructed/modified division on the state level. If the contest ends up being a virtual event, we will only judge the modeling and interview. At the national level they only judge the modeling and interview. National level only allows you to compete in one division. Youth can compete in 2 different divisions and will be judged separately. Those divisions are: Constructed/Modified - 50% of the score will be on sewing construction and 50% will be on modeling and interviews (if virtual, 100% will be on modeling and interview). Modified outfits must show at least 30% change in the construction/design. Purchased/Embellished - 100% will be on modeling and interviews All items in this division are purchased but can included upcycling/embellishing that include little or no sewing of the purchased item.

Our goal is to reduce the financial and knowledge barriers surrounding gardening by offering raised beds, gardening supplies, and informational workshops at our community garden site, FREE OF CHARGE. AFCO: The Restoration - An Oratoria by Merrill Bradshaw with the Logan Institute Singers

Merrill Bradshaw was one of the most celebrated Utah composers of the 20th Century. As professor of composition at Brigham Young University, he composed in all genres of classical music. His magnum opus, The Restoration, which premiered 50 years ago, is written for large symphonic chorus, chamber choir, solo vocal quartet, and symphony orchestra. It is considered the culmination of his life's work as a composer. For ages 8+.

Weber County 4-H Horse Hippology Contest
Workshop/Training | Utah 4-H and Youth
Join us on April 15, 22, and 20 at 7pm for the Horse Hippology Contest. Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members, by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive setting. The Hippology Contest has four (4) different phases: Examination, Station, Judging, and Team Problem 1. A team consists of no more than four (4) contestants. On teams consisting of four members, all will compete; however, the lowest score in each phase will be dropped. For those teams consisting of three members, all members' scores will count in determining individual and team awards. 2. Teams will be compete in their 4-H age divisions 3. Junior and Intermediate teams may be comprised of mixed 4-H ages. Mixed teams will compete in the division of their oldest member (3 juniors and 1 intermediate will be considered an intermediate team). Senior teams must only consist of senior aged youth for 4-H teams.
