Lake Powell Kayaking Trip (Registration Deadline)
Recreation
Outdoor Programs is heading down south to the amazing red rock and blue waters of Lake Powell to explore some of its many side canyons in sea kayaks. We will pack our kayaks with our gear and spend two nights camping on the lake. Participants must be able to swim and comfortable in open water. Trip cost includes transportation, kayak and group equipment, and student leadership.

Managing Multiple Sections with Blueprint Courses
Workshop/Training
If you teach several sections of the same course that meet at different times, you can save yourself time developing Canvas content using a blueprint course. Blueprint courses are associated with multiple sections. You add content to the blueprint course then changes are synced to the other sections, thus eliminating the need to update content in various places. This workshop will walk you through the details.

Lifeguard Blended Learning Course
Workshop/Training
20 hour course designed to provide lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The course content and activities will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in an aquatic emergency and a medical emergency.
The course will take place Nov. 1-6, 5pm-8pm.

3D Printing Workshop with Space Dynamics Lab engineer Robert Fowler

Additive manufacturing is gaining more and more traction in every aspect of the engineering world. Hear from Space Dynamics engineer Robert Fowler about 3D printing and its applications in small satellites! We will be hosting a workshop where Robert will describe a current issue that engineers at Space Dynamics are working on, which involves the use of 3D printing. Attendees will be broken up into small groups to tackle the problem and present their findings to the group. Afterward, we will provide food!! This is a great opportunity to meet an engineer at Space Dynamics Lab and get better acquainted with the applications of 3D printing.

Entrepreneur Leadership Series: Crystal Maggelet

This week’s speaker is Crystal Maggelet who began her entrepreneurial pursuit in 1993 when she founded Crystal Inn Hotels and Suites. In 1994 she and her husband, Chuck, founded MacCall Management, L.L.C. which develops and manages hotels. In 2009, Crystal became the President and CEO of FJ Management, a company founded by her father, Jay Call, and formerly known as Flying J, Inc. Today, FJ Management’s wholly-owned subsidiaries include Maverik, a 270 c-store chain, Big West Oil, a petroleum refinery, and TAB, an industrial loan bank.
Crystal graduated with honors with a B.S. in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Recently, Utah State University awarded Crystal an Honorary Doctorate degree in Business. She currently serves on the National Advisory Board of the Huntsman School. She loves her role as a mother of her four children and spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite activities include running, skiing, and traveling.

Working Across Generations with Troy Beckert - SEA Development Event

Troy E. Beckert is professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Utah State University. His interests in adolescent development shape a research focus on intergenerational learning, autonomy, and psychosocial issues. His current direction of research allows for contextual assessments including families, cultures, and technology.
Troy will discuss his research with adolescent and parent relationships and how it can be translated in the workplace. He’ll discuss both the differences and similarities between members of each generations and discuss ways to successfully work together.

Ernesto has a enjoyed a varied career that has always demonstrated his commitment to community. He spent more than a decade with Bear River Head Start before working to train domestic and international franchise owners. But what made him pivot to instructional design and how did he find himself as the first Hispanic and first immigrant to serve on the Logan City Council? Come meet Ernesto and learn how to change your view without losing your perspective.
Ernesto’s presentation will be held in MAIN 115 at 1:30pm on Friday, November 5.
