Ecology Center Data Science Workshop Series

Workshop/Training

The Ecology Center provides free, graduate student-led workshops on programming for data analysis. Sessions are held on Tuesdays at 3:00PM in NR 204, and are designed for beginners in the topic. Most workshops are focused on R, but we cover Python and Gooogle Earth Engine as well. Please bring your own computer. Body Liberation Book Club

Join us for our second Body Liberation Book Club! This group is an opportunity to discuss and support one another within the complicated and varied issues surrounding body liberation. The Body Is Not an Apology offers radical self-love as the balm to heal the wounds inflicted by violent systems of oppression. World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength. Free and open to students, faculty, and staff! We will be meeting three times this fall semester: October 4th, October 18th, and November 1st. We will be handing out the book* and reading schedule all day on September 21st in TSC 313. *Books are available for free to the first 20 registrants, so be sure to register now using the link below.

USU Be Well and Aetna, USU's Employee Assistance Program present a lunch and learn on the impact of gratitude in our lives. What are you thankful for? According to current research, gratitude is strongly associated with happiness. You feel good about something and in turn your appreciation makes someone else feel good as well. So, how do we bring more gratitude into our life? In this training, you will learn about the definition, impacts and importance of gratitude, how gratitude affects the body and mind, how to express gratitude in your life and into the lives of others, and incorporating gratitude exercises in your life. *Presentation will not be recorded. In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address what they are capable of and the various ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. We'll discuss syllabus language, AI detection tools, and ways to encourage students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and demonstrate their own capabilities. We'll also share some ideas and examples of AI as a teaching tool.
