History of Punctuation Poster Exhibition Celebrating National Punctuation Day

September 24 is National Punctuation Day. While punctuation may be viewed as a set of rigid grammar rules, the history of these symbols is fascinating, which was discovered by the students enrolled in Professor Joyce Kinkead’s History of Writing classes. Each student adopted a punctuation mark and then researched its origins. These histories are depicted graphically in colorful posters designed by Molly Etchberger, a graduate of Art and Design. The posters are on display in the Merrill-Cazier Library on the lower floor near Special Collections, September 11-October 9. A public reception with refreshments will be hosted by the Department of English on site on Friday, September 22 at noon.

The Clothesline Project is an annual event to raise awareness about domestic violence during the month of October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of interpersonal violence or by someone who loves someone who has been killed. It was created as a way for survivors to share what has happened to them as well as highlight the realities behind statistics of domestic violence that are often overlooked. The project will be displayed across USU Campus at various dining services locations. We encourage you to visit a display this month and visit our resources page should you or someone you know need help.

We are heading down south near Moab to spend the weekend playing on the Colorado River and hiking in the Moab area. We will enjoy our nights camped in beautiful red rock country while we paddle the rapids of the Moab Daily section and hike along beautiful red rock trails. Participants must be able to swim and prepared for fun on the water. Trip cost includes: food, transportation, campground fees, river equipment, and student leadership.

Wasserman Piano Series Presents: Sergei Babayan

The meditative focus and rare stillness of Armenian-American pianist Sergei Babayan's keyboard artistry prompted the Hamburger Abendblatt to liken him to "one of those Japanese calligraphers who contemplate the white page before them in silence until, at the exact right moment, their brush makes its instinctive, perfect sweep across the paper". Babayan himself has observed that making music should be open to surprises and spontaneous insights, allowing unexpected emotions to emerge and subtle shadings to evolve naturally. The University Honors Program presents the 48th Annual Honors Last Lecture, featuring Dr. Colin Flint, Distinguished Professor of Political Science in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Honors students nominated and interviewed faculty, selecting Dr. Flint as the 2023 Honors Outstanding Professor. His talk, titled “Dare to Build Global Peace,” will challenge audience members to consider the relationship between national security and the geopolitics of global peace. The livestream for a statewide audience and the recording of the event after its completion can be accessed from the University Honors Program website.
CIDI Workshop - Digital Badging Using Canvas Credentials (previously Badgr)

Farmer's version of the Arrington Mormon History Lecture will be an homage to the "Music & the Spoken Word" radio show, and a meditation on the relationship between landscape, religion, and sound.
About the Speaker:
Jared Farmer is the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania and a former Andrew Carnegie Fellow. He is the author of four books, including On Zion's Mount: Mormons, Indians, and the American Landscape (2008), winner of the Francis Parkman Prize, and Elderflora: A Modern History of Ancient Trees (2022). Farmer's hometown is Provo, Utah and his alma mater is Utah State University.

Clothesline Project - Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Clothesline Project is an annual event to raise awareness about domestic violence during the month of October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of interpersonal violence or by someone who loves someone who has been killed. It was created as a way for survivors to share what has happened to them as well as highlight the realities behind statistics of domestic violence that are often overlooked. The project will be displayed across USU Campus at various dining services locations. We encourage you to visit a display this month and visit our resources page should you or someone you know need help.

Women in Welding Workshop
Workshop/Training
Over the course of three sessions, participants will learn how to set up a welder for GMAW/FCAW, apply basic troubleshooting techniques, use basic shop tools and machinery, and will be introduced to entry-level fabrication techniques. Students will complete a small project by the end of the course to take home with them.
This workshop runs three consecutive Saturdays, September 23, 30 and October 7, 2023.

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Science. Featured speaker is USU geoscientist Evey Gannaway Dalton, who presents, "Chronological Order: Telling Time with Utah's Fossil Record," as part of our "Building on Basics" series. Refreshments and hands-on learning activities follow the talk.
USU Observatory Public Viewing Night

Astronomy enthusiasts of all ages are invited to view the night sky through the USU Observatory telescope. Admission is free. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please check the observatory website at observatory.usu.edu prior to arrival on the public night, as the gathering will be cancelled in the event of cloudy or inclement weather. History of Punctuation Poster Exhibition Celebrating National Punctuation Day

September 24 is National Punctuation Day. While punctuation may be viewed as a set of rigid grammar rules, the history of these symbols is fascinating, which was discovered by the students enrolled in Professor Joyce Kinkead’s History of Writing classes. Each student adopted a punctuation mark and then researched its origins. These histories are depicted graphically in colorful posters designed by Molly Etchberger, a graduate of Art and Design. The posters are on display in the Merrill-Cazier Library on the lower floor near Special Collections, September 11-October 9. A public reception with refreshments will be hosted by the Department of English on site on Friday, September 22 at noon.

USU Homecoming Parade

Utah State University 2023 Homecoming is just a falling leaf away, with events going from Sunday, Oct. 1, through Saturday, Oct. 7. Longtime Aggies will recognize notable events for the week that include A Day of Giving on Thursday, Oct. 5 to help raise money for student scholarships and True Aggie Night on Friday, Oct. 6, just before midnight under the “A” lit blue atop Old Main. More fun begins Saturday, Oct. 7, with the Running of the Bulls 5K at 8:30 a.m. (sign up early for discount registration) and the Homecoming Parade on Logan’s Main Street at 10 a.m. The parade route begins on Center Street and ends at 800 North. Last but not least, people can show their Aggie pride by attending the annual Homecoming game against Colorado State University at 6 p.m. Four notable Aggies will be honored for their contributions to Utah State University during the Homecoming festivities. The honorees are a prominent feature of the Homecoming parade and are chosen for their record of service within their communities and support of the university. The honorees include David and Lynette Jenkins as Grand Marshals, James Edward Porras as Alumnus of the Year, and Amberley Lana Snyder as Young Alum
