Biography

Dr. Trinh received his Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from Delft University of Technology, in 2010. Prior to joining the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (2022) at USU, he was an assistant research professor at the University of South Florida (Tampa), a research scientist at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and Columbia University (New York), a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands).

Teaching Interests

General chemistry for undergraduate level and special topics (materials, spectroscopy, imaging, …) for graduate level. Advising and mentoring of both undergraduate and graduate students.

Research Interests

Dr. Trinh's research interest is in a broad range of materials chemistry and spectroscopy. Specifically, he employs ultrafast magneto-optical spectroscopy and nanoimaging to study exciton and carrier dynamics in advanced nanomaterials, organic molecules, and at their interfaces. He is also interested in the development of highly efficient photonic devices based on functional nanomaterials. Dr. Trinh serves as a referee for several scientific journals and is an associate editor for the Journal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices (Elsevier B.V.).

Teaching

CHEM 3060 - Physical Chemistry I (QI), Fall 2023
CHEM 1220 - Principles of Chemistry II, Spring 2023
CHEM 7030 - Special Topics in Physical Chemistry (Topic), Fall 2022
