Bio

Jim Evans is a geosciences professor who has taught at Utah State University for 35 years. His specialty of research is in rock deformation, and he has performed research in a wide range of topics, including the nature of fluid flow in rocks, CO2 flow and storage in rocks, ore deposits, earthquake processes manifested in rocks, and studies that involve drilling into rocks to depths as much as 10,000 feet. This research involves field work, a range of laboratory methods, and computer modeling. He has taught classes from introductory through doctorate levels in topics such as climate change and earth systems, energy resources, and earthquake proocesses, and has won university- and national-level awards for his research and teaching. He is a fellow of the Geological Society of America, winner of the D. Wynne Thorne Award at Utah State University, and winner of the Natural Resources Professor of the Year by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He edited two international journals in geosciences, and Evans has advised more that 45 graduate students, numerous undergraduate students, and postdoctoral research fellows.
