Study Abroad

Student Financial Support can help you financially plan for a USU study abroad semester. Follow the steps below to access resources and create a plan.

1. Use your Federal Aid

Study abroad students are also eligible for all standard federal aid awards including Federal Direct PLUS and private education loans if:

• They are fully admitted to USU in a degree seeking program.
• They are enrolled in an eligible USU Study Abroad Program.
• They are making satisfactory academic progress in their degree program.
• They understand that their study abroad program credits must be applied (as electives or otherwise) towards their graduation program.

There are no special paperwork requirements to apply your USU Federal Aid to a USU Study Abroad Program. However you must coordinate your federal aid with the USU Office of Global Engagement and they may require additional paperwork to do so. If you have any questions about using federal aid while on study abroad, please visit with your Federal Aid Counselor. Please note that summer federal aid may be limited for study-abroad programs if a federal aid recipient used their federal aid while attending full-time fall and spring semester.

2. Apply for Scholarships

• Apply for study abroad specific scholarships
• Apply for USU and private scholarships using the USU General Scholarship Application

3. Meet with a Financial Coach

Our Financial Coaches can help you create a budget to make sure you can afford to go on the trip and have enough to go to school when you get back!
