Morse Scholarship

Dr. Joseph G. and Dr. Karen W. Morse established the Morse Scholarship to assist future generations of students in the Honors Program at Utah State University. Morse Scholars are outstanding Honors juniors who demonstrate both the intention and the capacity to graduate with University Honors. In 1968, the Morses came to USU, where Dr. Joseph Morse was Director of the Honors Program and Associate Professor of Chemistry, and Dr. Karen Morse was Professor and Department Head of Chemistry and Biochemistry, then Dean of the College of Science, and eventually USU’s Provost.

Eligibility:

Active, engaged Honors (rising) juniors in a declared major with a minimum 3.5 cumulative/USU GPA who demonstrate clear progress toward graduation with University Honors

Selection Criteria:

  • Overall academic merit indicated by cumulative/USU GPA of at least 3.5, as well as evidence of university honors and/or awards earned
  • Evidence of progress toward graduation with University Honors, including demonstration of intention and plans to complete an Honors capstone project  
  • Evidence of initiative and creativity, as indicated by letter(s) of recommendation
