Though he came from Sicily, Rhinthon appears to have had ties to Tarentum, a city in southern Italy, which is natural enough since large numbers of Greeks inhabited both areas. Little else is clear about this author, however, other than he wrote in Greek, not Latin. He probably lived around or after the 300's BCE, since several titles of plays he wrote suggest they were spoofs of tragedies by Euripides. Thus, the earliest Rhinthon could have worked was the end of the Classical Age.
