SEA Professional Development Award

The SEA professional development award assists staff who want to attend a conference or workshop that will expand their professional skills related to their work at USU. This award covers no more than half the cost of the conference or workshop registration up to $500. Departmental funds must also support this award.

SEA Professional Development Award recipients are selected based on the legitimacy of the conference or workshop and its relevance to the applicant's current professional role.

The application for this award is open twice per academic year:

  • For conferences or workshops that take place September through February, the application period is July 1-July 21.
  • For conferences or workshops that take place March through August, the application period is January 1 – 21.

Eligibility

To be considered for the Professional Development Award, the applicant must:

  • Be a current benefit-eligible employee working 75% - 100% time.
  • Use the scholarship toward registration costs of a workshop or conference that will benefit them in their current employment at USU.

Restrictions

  • This award must be used in conjunction with departmental funding and may not exceed more than half the cost of registration up to $500.
  • This award may not be used for travel, lodging or food expenses.
  • We will need a receipt or proof of registration in order to fund the conference or workshop.

Scholarship Donations

Thanks to the generous contributions of USU SEA members, more than 173 employees and/or their family members have been awarded over $60,000 in scholarships since 1989. We are very proud to assist in all education and professional development goals.

Our goal is to award more money to more employees, but we need your help! Sign up to contribute through payroll deduction using the on-line payroll deduction form, or by downloading, filling out and sending in your donation form. If all employees were to donate just $1 per month (just $12 a year), we would increase our awarding capabilities by approximately $4,000, and more scholarships could be awarded to more employees.
