Farmers Market Vendor Guidelines

Statement of Purpose

Farmers markets exemplify sustainability by bringing community members together to purchase organic produce, and local crafts, food and products. The purpose of the USU Farmers Market is to bring local vendors to campus, making it easier for students to access local, healthy food, and support the community.

The USU Farmers Market was initiated by the Student Sustainability grant program. The market features live local musicians in addition to local businesses and student organizations. One of the popular programs for USU students is “double your bucks.” This program allows students to double their money in dollar increments up to $6, receiving two $1 tokens for each dollar exchanged. Tokens can be purchased at the entrance booth. The tokens may only be used in the market towards produce and food purchases.

Who can sell at the market?

In keeping with the purpose of the market, all products must be grown, raised, produced, handmade or gathered by the vendor within an 80-mile radius of the USU main campus in Logan, UT.

Prohibited items:

  • Items grown, raised, or made outside of the 80-mile radius
  • Carnival-type, high-sugar foods (i.e. cotton candy, snow cones)
  • Value-added foods and crafts not produced by the seller
  • Private label, franchises, and multi-level marketing products

Market Day, Time and Location

The USU Farmers Market is held every Wednesday from 11am to 3 pm at the TSC Fountain on the south side of the Taggart Student Center. Vendors need to arrive 30-60 mins early for set-up, and plan to stay about an hour after for take-down. (10am - 4pm). Please arrive at or before 10:30am to ensure market is set up before we open.

2024 Market Dates: Every Wednesday from September 4th – October 9th.

**We will contact you by 4 pm the night before market due to any weather related cancellation**

Market Vendor Application

Applications can be found on our USU website. Vendors will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The market’s need for particular items not currently offered will also be considered. Due to our limited space, we cannot accept all vendors. If there is not room, we can put you on our waiting list. Remember: Students do not have a lot of extra spending money or space, so small inexpensive items are most likely to sell!

Vendor Fees

There is no fee to participate; however, vendors must pay for their own parking during the market (11-3). Registered vendors will be provided a table and 2 chairs on a first-come, first-served basis, but will need to provide their own canopy. If your canopy is larger than the average 10 x 10, please let the Farmers Market Coordinator know.

Waste

We hope to establish the USU Farmers Market as a “zero waste” event. We encourage this by asking vendors to sell and serve food only on items that are compostable, recyclable, or reusable, including plates, eating utensils, bags and other materials. Students will be encouraged to bring their own reusable bags, and the option of purchasing a bag will be available at the market entrance.

Licenses, Insurance, Permits

Vendors are required to obtain and provide all applicable insurance, licenses and permits. Applicable licenses and permits must be clearly displayed during the Market.

Double YourBucks

Double your Bucks allows USU students to purchase two-for-one tokens, which can be used on produce or other pre-packaged food items, such as honey, jam and bread. Participants in Double Your Bucks can double up to $6 per market. For example, if a participant purchases the maximum amount of $3, they will receive $6 in tokens to spend on eligible market items.

If participating in the Double Your Bucks program, a check will be sent to you weekly or monthly for the value of the tokens you received at the market. Off-campus vendors participating in this program must submit a W9 form to Utah State University.

Loading/Unloading

Vendors must move their vehicle ASAP. Please unload your car BEFORE you set up – Not AS you set up. In other words, Do NOT set up before you move your car. For the market management to complete their set up before the market opens, all vehicles must be fully unloaded and parked away from the Market site by 10:45a.m.

Please note: Due to safety, early booth disassembly is not allowed until market is closed. If you sell out early, cover your tables and come back at 3:00pm to dismantle. If you have an emergency, please contact the market management.

Parking

Parking can be found in both the TSC “Big Blue” parking terrace or the Aggie Terrace. Pricing is the same for both and vendors are responsible for paying the parking fee. Loading permit costs; however, are covered by the Christensen Office of Social Action & Sustainability. We ask that you meet our campus representatives to load/unload between 10:00 - 10:45am to accommodate pedestrian traffic between classes.

Indemnification

Vendors assume full liability for the products they sell and agree to hold Utah State University harmless from and against any claim of injury, or damage by any buyer, vendor, or other persons, resulting from the use, consumption, disposition, display, or marketing of vendors’ products. Utah State University is not liable for any injury, theft, or damage to either the buyer or vendor (or their property), arising out of or pertaining to preparation for or participation in the Market. Vendors further agree to indemnify and hold Utah State University harmless from and against any claims for such injury, theft or damage.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Farmers Market Coordinator or the Director of the Student Sustainability Office.
