College of Engineering Faculty Promotions 2021

The College of Engineering at Utah State University extends its congratulations to two newly promoted faculty members.

Sanghamitra Roy was promoted to full professor. Roy joined USU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2009 as an assistant professor. She holds a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her doctoral research was sponsored by Intel Strategic CAD labs and the National Science Foundation. She earned an master’s in computer engineering from Northwestern University and an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University in India.

Roy is an accomplished engineer and researcher. She has published over 90 peer-reviewed publications in top-tier journals and holds 12 U.S. patents. Roy has received numerous research grants, including the prestigious NSF CAREER Award in 2013. To date, she has secured over $3.8 million in research funding as both PI and Co-PI. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, the Association of Computing Machinery and is a senior member of the IEEE.

Ziqi Song was promoted to associate professor with tenure. Song joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as an assistant professor in 2015. He holds a doctorate in transportation engineering and a master’s in operations research from the University of Florida. In addition, he has a master’s in transportation from the University of Hong Kong and a bachelor’s in transportation engineering from Southeast University in China. He specializes in transportation network modeling, transportation electrification, traffic operations and safety and sustainable transportation systems.

Song is a leading authority in transportation engineering and is a member of the NSF-funded ASPIRE Engineering Research Center for electrified transportation. He has published 45 peer-reviewed journal articles and has secured over $6.5 million in research funding as both PI and Co-PI. Song is a member of the Transportation Research Board, the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
