Opportunities

Undergraduate Research

As one of two flagship research universities in Utah, USU has the second-oldest undergraduate research program in the nation, followed only by MIT. USU has grown into a thriving research university known and respected around the world.

Watch how undergraduate researchers get hands on learning opportunities at USU.

University Honors Program

The University Honors Program is home to Aggies working together to create a community of curious, brave, creative, and engaged students who want to put their learning into practice and prepare for the future as they earn a USU degree. Honors students think critically and ask questions, find and share answers, take risks and support their peers in doing so, and engage with their communities. Our students are committed to building a life-changing experience for themselves and others: they want to—and will—change the world.

What does the University Honors Program do? Discover ways the program can help you take risks, think critically, and change the world.

Graduate Studies

There are more than 240 degree options available at USU, including more than 130 master’s and doctoral degrees. Multiple graduate programs have ranked within top 100 — some even in the top 50 — programs in the United States., including Audiology, Aerospace, Biological Engineering, Education, and Rehabilitation Counseling.

Potrait of Idowu
Idowu Atoloye
Can compost affect how many crops are grown? Idowu Atoloye is a post-doctorate research fellow (PDRF) studying soil plants and climate, and his research focuses on organic wheats and how compost can enhance yield in the long term.
Potrait of Samantha
Samantha Corralejo
Samantha Corralejo, a clinical psychology post-doctorate research fellow, is working to make psychological services available in Latinx and rural communities —  especially those that may not have access to a Spanish-speaking psychologist.

World-Class Faculty

At a place where conventional wisdom is challenged and re-imagined constantly, USU faculty researchers are engaging in fields of study the world can’t live without. In the last two years, 63.5% of USU’s professors worked with undergrads on research projects — giving students invaluable hands-on experience with some of the best and brightest.

Making an Impact in Their Field

Potrait of Ben
Ben Burger
Ben Burger’s discovery and research of an ancient rock level helped to reveal high carbon dioxide levels in rocks. His research has helped to set safer climate parameters based on the information gleaned from our past. Just like Burger, faculty across the USU statewide system conduct research that has a global impact.
Potrait of Ricardo
Ricardo Ramirez
Ricardo Ramirez leads students in research to create tools, like biopesticides, to help farmers combat destructive insects. The university has undergraduate students working closely with professors in a broad range of disciplines and inspires more than 1,000 students to pursue their own research projects every year.
Potrait of Janice
Janice Brahney
Janice Brahney studies how microplastics get into the atmosphere, stay aloft, and ultimately end up in our global system. Understanding these movements and discovering where we can find waste hotspots are crucial to fixing the problem.  Just like Brahney, USU is leading the way in sustainability research.

Faculty Mentors

Through the USU Connections program, students have the opportunity to be paired with a faculty member who will mentor them through their first year at USU.

Whether its help with homework, finding the right student resource, or even providing pointers on how to drive in the snow, USU mentors are there to support.
