NSF Application Workshops

The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) offers three years of funding to students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees in STEM fields. 

The Science Writing Center hosts a workshop series each fall, where applicants are paired with mentors who have previously received the award or an honorable mention.

Receive email

In early August, USU students receive an email from their college or the university indicating that registration for the workshop series has begun.

Register

Applicants who want to participate in the workshop series fill out the registration form to reserve their place on a first-come, first-served basis.

Workshop

Applicants meet with their mentors during five sessions in September and early October.

  • Session 1: applicants brainstorm ideas for their personal statements.
  • Session 2: applicants receive feedback on an outline of their research plan.
  • Session 3: applicants receive feedback on first drafts.
  • Session 4: applicants receive feedback on second drafts.
  • Session 5: applicants and mentors review the personal statements and research proposals of other applicants in the workshop, simulating the rapid review process the applications are likely to receive at the hands of reviewers.
